Drone roof survey in Madley Park

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The Premium Survey includes a drone inspection where applicable, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we will say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. If you’re worried about storm damage on steep or tall roofs and worn lead at chimneys and walls, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters alike.

Around Madley Park, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image frequently shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from the ground misses.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

What we can’t see

No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Bear these in mind:

  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

Madley Park questions

Is my home in Madley Park listed or in a conservation area?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Madley Park?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. Photos are part of every report, so you can see each point for yourself.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey seven days a week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. High wind or heavy rain can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We are roof surveyors, not structural engineers, and it does not include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

What will the report tell me?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, and ends with what we recommend. Points are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

What we do, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. The visit normally takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. In a smaller place like Madley Park, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from the ground, with the loft showing the underside.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that’s needed before we fly.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. We email a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure we can get to the back of the property
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

What a drone roof survey looks like in Madley Park

Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times.

Hotels and guest houses near Madley Park cannot easily close rooms for a leak, so it pays to find faults before guests do. If you live in an older home near Church of Holy Trinity, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Can I check my roof myself?

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

What we are asked to look at in Madley Park

Hidden gutters and valleys are easy to overlook. Debris collects where nobody looks, until it causes a leak inside. A drone shows them clearly from above.

Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed one of these:

  • Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
  • Ponding and splits on a high flat roof
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Hidden gutters full of leaves

Anyone responsible for a site like Madley Brook Community Primary School will know that big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

What a good roof survey covers

Tips that help

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Allow for a change of day in poor weather
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Tell us the exact address as you book
  • Check the loft can be reached

There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
