Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Northumberland Heath

Tall, steep, large or fragile roofs can’t always be inspected up close. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. It shows coverings, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters clearly. The photos go into a written report. It’s also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. Typical surveys look at eroded pointing on a chimney stack and slates or tiles shifted by high winds, on chimney stacks, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.

London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, so privacy and neighbours matter as much as the view. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building as you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. It records what’s sound as well as what is not.

Tips from our surveys

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Let us know the exact address when booking
  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property

We email the report to you, including the close-up photos taken by the drone. Each finding is explained in plain words, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant.

Keep the loft space ventilated. Condensation in the loft can damage timbers and insulation. Keep insulation clear of the eaves.

The survey, step by step

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the loft space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so a visit in Northumberland Heath moves between viewpoints: the pavement, upstairs windows, the loft and any safe spot at the back. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

How the survey changes by roof type

Valleys and parapet gutters

Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey doesn’t add damage.

Northumberland Heath: your questions answered

Is parking a problem for a survey in Northumberland Heath?

London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway as you book. That way the visit can be planned around it.

Are there drone restrictions around Northumberland Heath?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Drone roof surveys in Northumberland Heath: local notes

Hall Place and Gardens, about 1.8 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Northumberland Heath. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Outer London has lots of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Northumberland Heath is in London, so parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier, as a space near the door can’t be promised. For businesses in and around places like Broadway Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most. Anyone responsible for a site like King Henry School will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

What affects the cost of drone roof surveys

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Helping us price your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
