Drone roof survey in North End

Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. We keep the camera on the roof we are surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, flat roofs on upper floors and fragile roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are lead work pulling away at abutments and outlets choked with leaves and silt.

London’s roofs are frequently hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what can’t be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Common questions in North End

Can you fly a drone over a roof in North End?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.

Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in North End?

It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we will work around them.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We point out what can be seen, like sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

How do I book a survey in North End?

The quickest way is to call 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.

Does the weather affect the survey?

Light rain does not normally stop a survey, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions are not right we will arrange another day with you.

When you need someone else

A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. The main limits are:

  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

Roofs we survey in North End

  • Chimney stacks
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Fragile roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

Leave it or get it looked at?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. That’s a good reason to find problems early, while there’s time to plan, rather than in a rush after a leak.

Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and which survey you book.

Flying and imaging in North End

The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons.

If you live in an older home near St. Augustine's Church, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Anyone responsible for a site like St. Paul's (Slade Green) Church of England Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. For businesses in and around places such as Broadway Shopping Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera.

What we look for on each type of roof

Large commercial roofs

Fragile roof sheets and roof lights can be dangerous to walk on. A drone keeps everyone off them.

Steep slate and tile slopes

Walking on fragile coverings can break them. The drone sees them without touching them, so the survey does not add damage.

The survey, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photographs, emailed to you. On timing, it typically takes about one to two hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In North End, as in much of London, a good many properties are flats or terraces without side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents as you book.

  1. First comes the address, plus a note of what worries you about the roof.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

How to prepare

Advice

What affects the price in North End

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • House, block, shop or office
  • Which survey package you book

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Helping us price your survey

A little information up front helps. Please include:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
  • Anything about access we should know

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there is time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.

Can I check my roof myself?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
