How a drone roof survey works in Putney
Our price is from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where it applies, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we’ll say so. Every drone survey comes with a written report and close-up photos. We’re frequently asked to look into vegetation in valleys and gutters and lead work pulling away at abutments, across tall and steep roofs, chimney stacks and flat roofs on upper floors.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Putney is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.
If any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, we say so in the report. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What happens on the day
On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, and more on a big or complicated roof. In Putney, as in much of London, a good many properties are flats or terraces without side access, so rear slopes are viewed from windows, the loft or, where a flight is allowed, by drone. Mention any building rules, key holders or managing agents when booking.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets in another room
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Point out any leaks or damp patches
How to book

Advice
What we cannot see
Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- A flight where airspace permission is refused
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.
Roofs we survey in Putney
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
Roof by roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. A drone photographs them closely from a safe position, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Valleys and parapet gutters
Valleys and parapet gutters are hidden from the street. A drone shows linings, joints and build-ups of debris.
Prices for drone roof surveys in Putney
Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The roof’s overall size
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Which survey package you book
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.
Helping us price your survey
Before you get in touch, it helps to have:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The property’s address and postcode
- What kind of property and roof it is
- What’s prompted the survey

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Putney
How do I find out if my home in Putney is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Are there drone restrictions around Putney?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Putney is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. We ask the heliport for permission before flying there, and only fly if it’s given. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. High wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, such as old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.
Do you work in Putney?
Yes. Putney is part of the area we cover.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Tell us about it when booking and we’ll plan the survey around it.
What happens after the survey?
The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.
Drones, thermal imaging and Putney roofs
Putney is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. Before any flight there, we ask the heliport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it’s given. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight.
For a London address like Putney, it is useful to know about controlled parking before the day. Take an older house close to Polish Church of St John the Evangelist: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. With Fulham Palace about 0.6 miles north-east, the area around Putney has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Putney is about 1 mile south-west of Fulham, in Greater London. We visit Putney as part of our work across Greater London, for houses, flats and commercial buildings. Our area takes in places right across Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages. For surveys nearby, see our London page.
Drone roof surveys in SW15, SW19 and SW13 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. Close by, we survey roofs in Roehampton (1 mile south-west), Barnes (1 mile north-west), Fulham (1 mile north-east), Mortlake (2 miles west) and Wimbledon Park (2 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover London (6 miles north-east), City of Westminster (5 miles north-east), Marylebone (5 miles north-east), Kensington (3 miles north), St Pancras (6 miles north-east) and Shoreditch (8 miles north-east).

Practical tips
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Move stored items away from the hatch
- Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet
- Let us know what you want to see
- Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys, and they help if you sell.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
