When you need someone else

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:

  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll suggest the right survey. What our survey covers.

Drone roof survey in Roxeth: what you get

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail, including slopes that can’t be seen from the street. Everything we find goes into a report with photographs. It also suits roofs that would be damaged by someone walking on them. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. We survey tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are vegetation in valleys and gutters and damage after a storm that can’t be seen from below.

London’s roofs are frequently hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That’s where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.

Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Roxeth?

Steep and tall roofs are hard to inspect safely. Three-storey houses, blocks of flats and tall commercial buildings are common examples. We fly from the ground and bring the camera close to the roof.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Lifted or split lead flashings
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack
  • Blistered or cracked flat roof coverings

If you run a business near St. George's Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images help most.

Before you book any roof surveyor

  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Their report turnaround times
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What a good roof survey covers

The survey, step by step

Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe vantage point, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. It normally takes an hour or two at a typical home, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is frequently on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Otherwise, the visit in Roxeth runs like any other.

  1. We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Before we arrive

  • Check we can get to the back of the property
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared

Advice

Can I check my roof myself?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Roxeth

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey does not create new problems. London’s older roofs frequently have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

Roof by roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.

Valleys and parapet gutters

When a parapet outlet blocks, water can come inside. We check outlets and photograph any build-up.

Common questions in Roxeth

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Roxeth?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Is parking a problem for a survey in Roxeth?

In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day run more smoothly, so mention what’s available as you book.

What will the report tell me?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely, so you know exactly what was covered.

Is Roxeth in your area?

Yes, we do. We carry out drone roof surveys in Roxeth.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only if it’s safe. We look at everything that can safely be seen: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.

Does the drone show the underside of the roof?

No. A drone shows the outside surfaces of the roof in close detail, but it can’t see under the coverings. We look in the loft from inside where it is safe.

Flying and imaging in Roxeth

Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The wider area around Roxeth has a long history of building, with Northolt Manor about 1.9 miles south-west. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.

For a London address like Roxeth, it’s useful to know about controlled parking before the day, along with any off-street space. If you live in an older home near Christ Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
