- Moss and weeds taking hold up top
How a drone roof survey works in Harrow
Prices start from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. It also includes a follow-up after 12 months. We will tell you if a drone is not the right tool for your roof. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Common reasons to book are storm damage on steep or tall roofs and standing water on a flat roof, across chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in Harrow is checked before any drone flight, and permission is never taken for granted.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Different roofs, different checks
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor.
Ridges and hips
Ridges may be bedded in mortar or mechanically fixed. Their condition is noted in the report.
What happens on the day
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will take it from there. The survey itself takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. London terraces rarely offer a view of the whole roof from one spot, so in Harrow we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Let us know who holds the keys.
- You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
- The sub-250g drone takes close-up photos of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
- We email a written report with the photographs and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Leave a clear route to the loft
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
Getting a price
If you are buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or email us whenever suits you.
Advice
What this survey cannot tell you
Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Flights in a restricted zone without permission
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- Tall and steep roofs
- Chimney stacks
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
What affects the price in Harrow
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Which survey package you book
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- Roof area
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
Price depends partly on the package: from £150 for Basic, £250 for Standard and £400 for Premium, inc. VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Getting in touch
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- What’s prompted the survey
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- The property’s address and postcode
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
You can call us seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. For a price or to book, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

What else we do in Harrow
For landlords and managing agents
With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the addresses.
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.
Tips from our surveys
Small things make a difference. Our tips:
- Let us know the exact address when you book
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
The report gives any roofer you ask to quote a clear brief. They’ll see exactly where each defect is.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.
Questions from Harrow
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Harrow?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in Harrow?
It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
How do I book a survey in Harrow?
Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.
Do drone rules differ in central London?
In some places, only with permission. Restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs need NATS permission before a flight. Every address is checked first.
What insurance do you have?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. The drone photographs the outer surfaces, but it cannot see under the coverings. We look in the loft from inside where it is safe.
Airspace, weather and Harrow roofs
Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. The wider area around Harrow has a long history of building, with Headstone Manor about 1.4 miles north. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Whitmore High School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Harrow is in London, so parking needs planning: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space as you book. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Peter, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
