Drone roof survey in South Harrow: what you get

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Flight restriction zones around airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick and London City need permission from the airport or air traffic control. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If permission isn’t given, we inspect by other means and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We survey flat roofs on upper floors, tall and steep roofs and valleys and parapet gutters, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are blistered or cracked flat roof coverings and cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots.

In London’s terraces and conversions, roofs are packed close together, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. Images are taken to show the roof we’re surveying, with care for neighbours’ privacy. Let us know about the building and access when booking. The extra view helps most on steep slopes, tall stacks and rear additions.

Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

What a survey costs

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • Height and safe access
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The size of the roof
  • Basic, Standard or Premium

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, including VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.

What to let us know when you get in touch

The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, let us know:

  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the details.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

How it works

Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. That way we can focus on what matters to you. Most visits take about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In South Harrow, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it’s useful to know what’s near you, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
  3. We assess the conditions and the take-off spot first.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before we arrive

  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Let us know about parking before the day

South Harrow: your questions answered

Can you fly a drone over a roof in South Harrow?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. RAF Northolt is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain.

Can parking be tricky for a visit in South Harrow?

London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway as you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.

How long is the visit?

Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. The report is sent afterwards by email.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when you book.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access; we’ll agree the details when booking.

Can you survey in bad weather?

It depends on the weather and the survey. Strong wind or heavy rain can make access unsafe and ground a drone, so we’d move the date with you.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.

Drone roof surveys in South Harrow: local notes

RAF Northolt is about 3 miles away, so we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before any flight. Historic houses like Northolt Manor, about 1.5 miles south-west, show how far back building in the area around South Harrow goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

South Harrow is in London, so parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a nearby bay makes the day easier. Shop and office owners around St. George's Shopping Centre may find that thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Parish Church of St Paul, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Practical tips

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Check the loft can be reached
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.

What happens if roof problems are left?

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. They show the location and extent of each defect. Work on a London roof is rarely simple to arrange, with parking, neighbours and access all to think about. That is a good reason to find problems early, while there’s time to plan.

Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
