South Ealing questions
Is my home in South Ealing listed or in a conservation area?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Can parking be tricky for a visit in South Ealing?
It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Let us know what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.
Is your drone operator registered?
Yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. Our drone weighs under 250g and follow the drone code.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. Give us the address and some details about the roof. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
Drone roof survey in South Ealing: what you get
Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Parts of central London have restricted areas too, where NATS permission is needed. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prisons have their own drone restriction zones too. We survey tall and steep roofs, valleys and parapet gutters and flat roofs on upper floors, and common reasons people get in touch are blocked valleys and parapet gutters and loose ridge and hip tiles.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. We take care to focus on the roof we’ve been asked to look at. Let us know about the building and access as you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

When you need someone else
In fairness, there are limits to any roof survey:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Flights in strong wind or a downpour
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. What our survey covers.
What this survey covers
- Large and complex roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Chimney stacks
- Tall and steep roofs
- Flat roofs on upper floors
What you can safely check yourself
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Photographing a roof from the air does not touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey does not create new problems. Any roof job in South Ealing means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That’s a good reason to find problems early, while there is time to plan.
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We can help you choose the package that fits what you need to know.

What a drone roof survey looks like in South Ealing
Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The drone we use is under 250g, flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight.
Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for South Ealing, along with any off-street space. Hotels and guest houses near South Ealing cannot easily close rooms for a leak. With Gunnersbury Park about 0.7 miles east, the area around South Ealing has a long history. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof itself.

Useful tips for South Ealing property owners
Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:
- Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- Let us know the exact address as you book
- Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
There is a follow-up after 12 months with the Premium Survey. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
How it works
We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In South Ealing, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.
- First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
- We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
- The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Keep pets in another room
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
Booking a survey
Most bookings start with a short call: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.
Advice
Roof by roof
Ridges and hips
Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. Their condition is noted in the report.
Large commercial roofs
Many commercial roofs have fragile sheets or roof lights. A drone keeps everyone off them.
