  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly

Drone roof survey in Thames View Estate: what you get

We carry out drone roof surveys in Thames View Estate and across London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To ask whether a drone survey suits your roof, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. We survey valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and tall and steep roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are eroded pointing on a chimney stack and storm damage on steep or tall roofs.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Thames View Estate, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.

It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

The survey, step by step

Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Surveys in Thames View Estate can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it helps to know what’s near you. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Thames View Estate

Parapet gutters, box gutters and central valleys sit out of sight. Debris collects where nobody looks, until water overflows inside. From above, they’re easy to see.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Flashings that have come away
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Outlets choked with leaves and silt
  • Tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack

For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Thames View Infants, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

What to check before booking

  • How soon the report will arrive
  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • What the survey won’t cover
  • What follow-up you get after the report

What a good roof survey covers

Before and after the survey

There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:

  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions
  • Let us know about any leaks or concerns
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Regular photos make changes easy to spot, and early repairs keep water out.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Thames View Estate

The flight restriction zone around London City Airport comes within about 1 mile of Thames View Estate. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Historic houses such as Eastbury Manor House, about 0.5 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Thames View Estate goes. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

The streets around a church such as Christ Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Thames View Estate.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Photographing a roof from the air doesn’t touch it. Fragile slates and tiles stay as they are, so the survey does not create new problems. London’s older roofs frequently have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.

Common questions in Thames View Estate

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Thames View Estate?

Usually it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. The flight restriction zone around London City Airport comes within about 1 mile of Thames View Estate. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is my home in Thames View Estate listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

How long is the visit?

Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take about one to two hours for a house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. The written report follows by email.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.

Is Thames View Estate in your area?

Yes, we do. Thames View Estate is part of the area we cover, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.

What’s the best way to book?

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know the address and what you want to find out. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

What’s in the survey report?

It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, with photographs throughout. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.
