Drone roof survey in Castle Green: what you get
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. Where there is safe access, we look in the roof space too, because the underside tells its own story. Together, the two give a fuller picture. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft cannot be reached safely, we note it. Common reasons to book are cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below and wind damage high on the roof, on fragile roofs, chimney stacks and valleys and parapet gutters.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. Drone photos and thermal images can show parts of a roof that are hard to reach safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Castle Green as anywhere. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Drone roof surveys in Castle Green: local notes
Castle Green is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London City Airport. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up.
If you live in an older home near St John the Divine, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Eastbury Manor House, about 1 mile west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Castle Green. Close-up aerial shots and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it. Shop and office owners around Gallions Reach Shopping Park may find that large commercial roofs are frequently easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roof coverings wear out at different rates. Photos show how the covering is wearing.
Ridges and hips
Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Finding them early keeps them from coming down.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Castle Green
A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It’s useful for planning maintenance over the years. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
File the report and photos with your home documents. They’re a useful baseline for future surveys.
Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Take photos of any changes.
What happens on the day
We do not take risks to get a closer look. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Surveys in Castle Green can be booked for any day of the week. London parking is often by permit or pay-and-display, so it helps to know what’s near you. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they often give the best view of a rear addition.
- First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
- If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
- On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

Castle Green questions
Is my home in Castle Green listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Castle Green?
In much of London, parking needs planning: a visitor permit or a bay close to the door helps a lot, so mention what’s available when you book.
How experienced are you?
We have been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys seven days a week. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Do you cover Castle Green?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, Castle Green included.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only when it is safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
Does someone need to be in?
If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We’ll talk about access when booking.
