About our drone roof survey in Tower Hill

Before any flight, we check the airspace. Near protected airports like Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Luton, flight restriction zones mean permission is needed first. Central London has restricted areas of its own, which need NATS permission. If we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points instead and explain why. Prison sites also have drone restriction zones. We are often asked to look into slates or tiles shifted by high winds and worn lead at chimneys and walls, on chimney stacks, valleys and parapet gutters and large and complex roofs.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Tower Hill, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.

After the visit, you get a written report with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Drones, thermal imaging and Tower Hill roofs

Tower Hill is about 1 mile from the restricted area over the City of London, where drone flights need permission from NATS. We check whether the address falls inside it, and if it does we apply for permission, which is not always given. Historic houses like Mansion House, about 0.6 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Tower Hill goes. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Tower Hill, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it pays to find faults before guests do. The streets around a church such as Church of St Peter ad Vincula are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. As a London address, Tower Hill can be tricky for parking: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book.

Tower Hill is about 1 mile north-east of London, in Greater London. Surveys in Tower Hill work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. We cover towns and villages across Greater London.

We cover every part of SE1, E1 and E1W for drone roof surveys and the streets around it. If you need a drone roof survey at a property on Bush Lane, Swan Lane and Mark Lane or a nearby road, we can help. Tower Hill is on the A3 and A10, which makes it straightforward to reach. We also cover the places around Tower Hill: Aldgate (1 mile north), Bishopsgate (1 mile north), Spitalfields (1 mile north), Whitechapel (1 mile north-east) and St George in the East (1 mile east). If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.

How we price drone roof surveys

Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:

  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
  • How many separate roofs there are, like extensions, dormers and garages
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address and some details. The price is agreed before a date is set.

What to tell us when you contact us

Some details help us point you to the right survey and price. When you get in touch, it’s useful to mention:

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Roof by roof

Ridges and hips

Loose ridge pieces can be lifted in a storm. Spotting them early stops them falling.

Chimney stacks

Chimney tops are hard to see from the ground. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings.

Questions from Tower Hill

Is parking a problem for a survey in Tower Hill?

It can be, so it helps to let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Tower Hill?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

What happens next?

You’ll get the report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

How fast do I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed, ready to forward.

Will you walk on the roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

What insurance do you have?

Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability.

How many surveys have you done?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

Why it is worth a survey now in Tower Hill

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. Seeing the problem makes it easier to decide what to do. In a London terrace or conversion, a roof defect rarely stays your problem alone: failed flashings and blocked valley gutters can send water into more than one home. Dealing with it early is far less disruptive.

Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

Honest limits

In fairness, a roof survey has limits:

  • Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
  • Structural calculations (that’s a structural engineer’s job)
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will recommend the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.

What this survey covers

  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

What we do, step by step

Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings in a report with photos, emailed to you. As for time on site, it usually takes an hour or two at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a London area like Tower Hill, the main things to sort out are parking and access: let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space, which floor the property is on and how to get into the loft. We then look at whatever is safely visible from the ground, windows, the loft and, where it’s safe, the roof itself.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it ahead of the visit.
  3. On the day, we check the weather and the site before flying.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
