Drone roof survey in Walworth: what you get

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator, with a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. It stays within sight for the whole flight, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Before every flight, we check the airspace and the weather. We never fly where it isn’t safe. We survey fragile roofs, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots and slates or tiles shifted by high winds.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Before a drone goes up in Walworth, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a drone roof survey does not cover

It’s useful to know what a survey will not do before you book:

  • Flights in high wind or heavy rain
  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Flights in a restricted zone without permission

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Large and complex roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs

DIY checks: what’s safe

Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Common questions in Walworth

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Walworth?

Typically it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Walworth is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Can parking be tricky for a visit in Walworth?

It depends on the street. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well.

Does the weather affect the survey?

It can, depending on the survey. Drone flights need calm, dry weather, and thermal imaging works best with a dry roof, little wind and a sunny day beforehand. If the conditions aren’t right, we’ll talk to you about another date.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with whoever owns or manages the building. Mention it when you contact us and we will plan the survey around it.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report.

Does someone need to be in?

It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in.

Tips from our surveys

Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:

  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Let us know what you want to see

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

For landlords and managing agents

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord. Access is agreed with the tenant ahead of time.

If you own several properties, you can book surveys for several addresses. To discuss a number of properties, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the addresses.

What a survey costs

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Height and safe access
  • Roof area
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Getting in touch

There is no need for technical words. It is enough to tell us:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • Anything about access we should know
  • Your timetable, such as an exchange date

If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you are ready.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that’s worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely. The survey normally takes an hour or two at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In Walworth, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.

  1. We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
  2. We agree a date, including weekends, subject to the weather.
  3. Aerial photos are taken of your roof only, not the neighbours’.
  4. Where there is safe access, we check the loft as well.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

How to prepare

  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
