Drone roof survey in Camberwell, Greater London
A careful look at the roof at your property in Camberwell, with photographs and a written report.
- Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
- Debris building up in hidden gutters
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
What we look for on each type of roof
Steep slate and tile slopes
On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.
Ridges and hips
Some ridges are fixed with mortar, others with dry-fix systems. We record what we see of their condition.
Drone roof survey in Camberwell: what you get
A drone can see more than your roof, so we take care. We keep the camera on the roof we’re surveying, not on gardens or windows next door. If your roof is shared, a word with next door beforehand helps. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We’re often asked to look into tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack and slipped or missing slates on a high roof, across fragile roofs, tall and steep roofs and chimney stacks.
London roofs sit shoulder to shoulder in terraces and blocks, which makes care around neighbours part of the job. We take care to focus on the roof we have been asked to look at. Mention access, height and anything unusual about the building when you book. Steep slopes, tall chimneys and rear additions are where the extra view helps most.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Tips from our surveys
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:
- Allow for a change of day in poor weather
- Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
- Book early if you’re near an airport
- Keep pets indoors during the flight
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. They’ll see exactly where each defect is, so their quotes cover the same ground.
Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, especially in autumn. On high roofs, leave clearing to a professional. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.
What we cannot see
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- Close-up photos of next door’s property

For landlords and managing agents
Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.
For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait.
The survey, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we will take it from there. A typical survey takes roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, let us know when you book.
- We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
- We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
- We assess the wind, the weather and the surroundings before take-off.
- We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Keep pets in another room
- Leave side gates unlocked
Getting a price
If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email whenever suits you.

Common questions in Camberwell
Is my home in Camberwell listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Is drone flying allowed in Camberwell?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. The flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea comes within about 2 miles of Camberwell. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we’re given access to.
What does a roof survey cost?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before booking, based on the roof’s size, access and package. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
What happens after the survey?
The report arrives by email. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
When does the report arrive?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Camberwell
From the pavement, most of a tall roof is out of sight. You cannot see the back slope, the valleys or the chimney tops. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.
We’re frequently asked to look at:
- Storm damage on steep or tall roofs
- Coverings that have slipped high up on the roof
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Lead work pulling away at abutments
Hotels and guest houses near Camberwell cannot easily close rooms for a leak.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Will the report include photos?
- Whether VAT is in the quoted price
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
