Gutter Survey in Bedgrove
Know where you stand with the gutter before you decide what to do next. We carry out gutter surveys in Bedgrove.
- Hoppers and outlets full of debris
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
How a gutter survey works in Bedgrove
Most blocked gutters are full of leaves, moss or silt. Buildings near trees collect more, and moss washing off a tiled or slate roof adds to it. Our survey shows which gutters are blocked or standing full, which outlets and hoppers are choked and whether any overflows are doing their job. Photos show each problem clearly. Blocked gutters are easy to put off, but they rarely get better. We survey outlets and hoppers, eaves gutters and valley gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are gutters packed with leaves or moss and brackets that have dropped or snapped.
Houses in smaller places like Bedgrove can face open ground, where wind and driving rain hit the roof harder. Ridge tiles, verges, chimney stacks and flashings take the worst of it. Checking those edges shows whether anything has begun to work loose before it lets water in. A loose ridge tile or slate gives the wind something to catch, and others soon follow.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Your questions about gutter surveys in Bedgrove
Can a landlord with a rental near Stoke Mandeville station book a roof survey?
Yes, that is a common request. Let us know whether a tenant or an agent will let us in, and we can send the report to you or your agent.
Do you cover smaller places like Bedgrove?
Yes, Bedgrove is covered. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you get in touch and we will explain what’s needed.
What does a gutter survey cost?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. The price depends on the size of the building and how easy the gutters are to see. For a price, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Are hidden gutters like valleys and box gutters included?
Yes. These gutters often cause leaks indoors when they block, so they’re an important part of the survey. Parts of them may not be visible, and the report says so.
Will you check if gutters are causing damp inside?
Leaking gutters and downpipes are a common cause of damp walls, and the survey looks for that. If the cause looks like something else, the report says so, based on what we can see.
What you can safely check yourself
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Gutter surveys in Bedgrove: local notes
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look. An older home may be listed, or stand in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.
If you own a rental within reach of Stoke Mandeville station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. The streets around a church like Church of the Holy Spirit are often among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine.

Different roofs, different checks
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Plastic rainwater systems are common on homes of many ages. As the seals age, joints can start to drip, and brackets can sag under load.
Aluminium and other metal gutters
Aluminium and other metal gutters are used on many newer and commercial buildings. Their joints and outlets still need checking.
Tips that help
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They apply to most roofs:
- Keep climbers away from the eaves
- Check the loft with care after heavy rain
- Note any damp stains below the gutters
- Do not climb a ladder to look in the gutters
If we think the problem lies underground, we will say so, so a drain survey can be arranged. We also note anything else we spot on the roof while we’re there.
Watch your gutters from ground level or a window during heavy rain. Overflows and dripping joints are a sign to act before the walls suffer.
What affects the price in Bedgrove
A few things affect what a survey costs:
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- The size of the roof
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. You will know the exact price before booking.
What we need to know
You do not need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to tell us:
- What’s prompted the survey
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- The address and postcode of the property
Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To get started, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
The survey, step by step
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes about one to two hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Homes around Bedgrove frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Mention any side of the property we cannot get to. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- Where it is safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

Signs you need a gutter survey in Bedgrove
Many gutter joints depend on rubber seals or sealant that age. Plastic sections expand and contract with the weather, and in time their joints can drip. On cast iron, joints can rust and open up once the paint has worn away.
People usually book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
- Joints that drip after rain
- Downpipes that are split or coming away
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
Shop and office owners around Friars Square may find that a dated report on the roof is useful for planning and for any lease discussions.
