How a gutter survey works in Farlington
We carry out gutter surveys in Farlington as part of our cover across London and South East England. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view from the ground, windows, the loft space and the roof where it’s safe. Time on site usually takes between one and two hours at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. The written report follows, with photos and recommendations. We survey fascias and soffits, eaves gutters and outlets and hoppers, and common reasons people get in touch are leaking or loose downpipes and blocked outlets and hoppers.
Houses in smaller places like Farlington can face open ground, where wind and driving rain hit the roof harder. Ridge tiles, verges, chimney stacks and flashings take the worst of it. A careful look shows whether anything has started to loosen. Once one ridge tile or slate moves, wind gets under the next one too.
You receive the findings by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Farlington questions
Does being near the coast affect roofs in Farlington?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Exposed details such as ridges, verges, flashings and metal fixings are the ones to watch, and Farlington is within about 1 mile of the coast.
Can a landlord with a rental near Cosham station book a roof survey?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. Just phone 07833 053749 or email us with the details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
How long will you be on site?
A visit normally takes between one and two hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. We’ll give you an idea when you book.
Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?
We check whether rainwater from the gutters is reaching the wall, through overflows, drips or damaged downpipes. We cannot see inside walls, so we report on what’s visible.
Will you check the loft?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch, and if the loft cannot be reached safely, the report says so.
Does the season matter for a gutter survey?
Any time of year works. Before the wetter months gives you time to plan any work though problems often show up after heavy rain.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
Why act early in Farlington
A dripping joint or sagging bracket will not get better on its own. Every downpour adds to the damage on the walls, the fascias and sometimes the rooms inside. Getting it surveyed now shows what needs attention first. Homes in smaller places like Farlington can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Wind gets under it and lifts more.
Prices start from £150, with VAT included, for a Basic Survey. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the price for your roof before you book.

What this survey can’t tell you
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

- Damage hidden inside walls or behind boards
- Pipes below ground level

Roof by roof
Fascias and soffits
Soffits and timber fascias suffer when gutters overflow. They’re looked at as part of the survey.
Lead-lined valley and parapet gutters
Lead linings are common in valleys and parapet gutters on older houses. A split lining can leak straight into the building.
Prices for gutter surveys in Farlington
Several things affect the price of a survey:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- The size of the roof
All our prices include VAT. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.
Helping us price your survey

- Anything about access we should know

The survey, step by step
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. Most surveys take an hour or two for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a smaller place like Farlington, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: drone flights and thermal imaging need the right conditions, while a look from ground level and the loft can go ahead in most weather.
- First, we agree the areas to focus on.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- Fascias, soffits and the walls below are looked at for signs of overflow.
- Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.
Getting ready for the survey
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Advice
Landlord and commercial surveys in Farlington
Landlords, agents and building managers in Farlington and across Portsmouth can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Farlington
Farlington is within about 1 mile of the coast, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Metal fixings and flashings corrode faster in salt air, while gales work at loose ridges, slates and tiles, while driving rain finds any gap. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Solent Infant School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. Landlords with a home close to Cosham station may find that a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. With Warblington Castle about 2.9 miles east, the area around Farlington has a long history. Older roofs nearby often mix original materials with later repairs, and the survey shows where each one is.
