FAQs for Great Stambridge
Does being near the coast affect roofs in Great Stambridge?
It can do. Within about 5 miles of the sea, as Great Stambridge is, metal fixings wear faster and gales find any loose ridge or slate.
Can a landlord with a rental near Rochford station book a roof survey?
Yes, landlords and letting agents book with us as well as owners. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details.
Is Great Stambridge in your area?
Yes. We carry out gutter surveys in Great Stambridge, and the service is the same as everywhere else we work.
When does the report arrive?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. Each one is emailed.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
How long will you be on site?
Most visits to a house take about 1–2 hours, and longer for larger or complex roofs.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
Gutter survey in Great Stambridge: what you get
Damp on walls, water marks under a valley or streaks down the brickwork often trace back to the gutters. Our gutter survey helps show whether the rainwater system is the cause, as far as can safely be seen. If the evidence points elsewhere, such as a flashing or the roof covering, we will say so, with a suggested next step. We’re frequently asked to look into dripping or leaking gutter joints and gutters packed with leaves or moss, across valley gutters, fascias and soffits and parapet and box gutters.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
After the visit, you get a written report with photographs, sent by email. It explains the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend.

What else we do in Great Stambridge
What happens if roof problems are left?
A blocked valley or parapet gutter doesn’t spill harmlessly. It can back up into the roof space and the rooms below typically during the worst downpours. Having them checked before autumn and winter makes sense. In a small place like Great Stambridge, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What you can safely check yourself
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us when you book and it will help the survey.
What happens on the day
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Older rural homes like those around Great Stambridge can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We agree which parts of the building you’re most worried about.
- Each gutter run is checked for blockages, sags and leaking joints.
- We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
- We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
- You get photos and written recommendations, prioritised where relevant.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about parking before the day
- Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
- Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Advice
What affects the price in Great Stambridge
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
Getting in touch
Some details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, tell us:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The style of property, from a terrace to a block
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and give us a few details about the property and we will explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
What this survey can’t tell you
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Gutters out of sight from each safe vantage point
- What’s behind fascias and inside walls
- Confirming asbestos in older rainwater goods
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

Gutter surveys around Great Stambridge
Great Stambridge is within about 5 miles of the coast, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Near the sea, metal fixings wear faster and loose pieces on a roof are more likely to lift. Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first.
Anyone responsible for a site like Stambridge Primary School will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. Southchurch Hall lies about 3.9 miles south, so building around Great Stambridge goes back a long way.
