What to tell us when you contact us

  • What made you get in touch
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Dates you are working to, like exchange
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors

Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Ringwould

Gutters carry rain off the roof and away from the walls. If they clog, drip or sag, the water ends up somewhere it shouldn’t, often down the brickwork or into the building. We check the full rainwater system above ground, from eaves gutters and valleys to outlets, hoppers and downpipes. The findings go into a written report with photos. We survey downpipes, eaves gutters and valley gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are brackets that have dropped or snapped and gutters packed with leaves or moss.

Older buildings in small places like Ringwould may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Where a building is listed, matching the existing roof materials is often expected.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. It records what’s sound as well as what isn’t.

Questions from Ringwould

Is my home in Ringwould listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

Is Ringwould within the area you cover?

Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

What’s the best way to book?

Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

Can you tell me if my old gutters contain asbestos?

No, that’s a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. We point out materials on older buildings that could contain asbestos so you can arrange that check.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

Do you survey underground drains?

No, we do not carry out CCTV drain surveys. We check gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows and flags signs of a drain problem.

When to book a survey in Ringwould

Hidden gutters are frequently lined with lead or another sheet covering. When a lining splits or an outlet blocks, the water can come inside as there’s nowhere harmless for it to go. Lead linings can also be stolen.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Brackets that have dropped or snapped
  • Leaks at the gutter joints
  • Leaking or loose downpipes
  • Overflowing eaves gutters

Anyone responsible for a site like Kingsdown and Ringwould CofE Primary School will know that a written record of a large roof helps plan work for the holidays rather than in term time.

Before booking any roof surveyor

  • Are they insured for the work?
  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Whether the inside of the roof is included

What a gutter survey looks like in Ringwould

Ringwould is within about 2 miles of the coast, where sea air brings more salt and stronger wind than inland. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces. With Walmer Castle about 1.6 miles north-east, Ringwould sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

The streets around a church such as Church of St Nicholas are often among the oldest in a place, and if your home is one of the older ones nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Landlords with a home close to Walmer station may find that the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.

What a gutter survey does not cover

Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:

  • Parts of gutters that can’t be seen safely
  • Blockages deep inside downpipes
  • Pipes below ground level

If you are not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Downpipes
  • Valley gutters
  • Eaves gutters
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Fascias and soffits

How it works

The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the gutter as closely as is safe and record what we find. Notes and photos go into the written report. It normally takes roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. In a small place like Ringwould, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You let us know where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
  2. We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level.
  3. We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
  4. The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
  5. You receive a report with photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Leave side gates unlocked
