Gutter survey in Roundbush Green, Essex
Find out what’s going on with the gutter before you spend money on it. We carry out gutter surveys in Roundbush Green.
- Gutters full of debris and silt
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Photograph them and note the date.
Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Roundbush Green
We check the rainwater system above ground level, from the gutters down to where the downpipes meet the ground. It is not a CCTV drain survey, so we cannot see inside underground pipes. If the problem looks like a blocked or broken drain below ground, the report will say so, so you can get the drains checked separately. Problems above ground, from split hoppers to leaking downpipes, are photographed and noted. Typical surveys look at leaves and moss blocking gutters and overflowing valley or parapet gutters, on valley gutters, eaves gutters and downpipes.
Some older homes in villages like Roundbush Green are listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials such as clay tiles, slate and stone are often matched when work is done.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

What we do, step by step
We check the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. In a hamlet or village like Roundbush Green, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First, you let us know what you’ve seen, such as overflows or damp.
- We look along the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level and from windows.
- Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can safely be seen.
- Where the loft can be reached safely, we check it for staining or damp.
- We send a written report with photos and clear recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Local roofs in Roundbush Green
Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, and a good many post-war and modern estates besides. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters. Historic houses like Barrington Hall, about 3.1 miles north-west, show how far back building in the area around Roundbush Green goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
Take an older house close to Parish Church of St Mary: old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

What we can’t see
This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- Underground drains, which need a CCTV drain survey
- Rot or damp concealed behind fascias or inside walls
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
If you’re not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

- Downpipes
- Valley gutters
- Parapet and box gutters
When to book a survey in Roundbush Green
Sometimes a gutter struggles with the area of roof draining into it. Added roof area from an extension can load an older gutter, and a heavy downpour shows up the problem.
We are often asked to look at:
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Leaks at the gutter joints
- Soffits marked by water
- Cracked or loose downpipes
Take a building like Rodings Primary School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.
What to check before booking
- Whether the loft space is looked at, where there is one
- Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
- What they won’t be able to tell you
- Are they insured for the work?
Questions from Roundbush Green
Is Roundbush Green in the area you cover?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Roundbush Green is part of that. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property.
How do I find out if my home in Roundbush Green is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Will you fly a drone over my roof?
Yes, where it is applicable. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
What do I do with the report?
You’ll get the report by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
When does the report arrive?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
Useful tips for Roundbush Green property owners
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week:
- Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
- Don’t climb a ladder to look in the gutters
- Ask for valleys and parapet gutters to be cleared too
- Book gutter clearing once a year, more often near trees
Questions about the report are welcome. The Standard Survey includes a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation.
Get trees and climbers near the eaves trimmed back using someone with the right kit. Less debris means fewer blocked outlets.
