Gutter survey in Shaw: what you get
We carry out gutter surveys in Shaw as part of our cover across London and the South East. We inspect everything we can see safely, from ground level, from windows and from the loft space. A visit typically takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. Afterwards, you get a written report with photos and recommendations. We survey fascias and soffits, eaves gutters and downpipes, and people most frequently book us about cracked or loose downpipes and water backing up from a hidden gutter.
In a smaller place like Shaw, some roofs stand more exposed to wind and rain than in a built-up town. Ridge tiles, verges, chimney stacks and flashings take the worst of it. A proper look shows whether anything has started to loosen before it lets water in. A loose ridge tile or slate gives the wind something to catch, and others soon follow.
Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Shaw questions
Can a landlord with a rental near Newbury Racecourse station book a roof survey?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
How do I find out if my home in Shaw is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.
What does a gutter survey cost?
Our price is from £150, including VAT. The size of the property and the access affect the price. For a price, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Will you check the loft?
If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

What happens next?
You will get the report by email, with photos and clear recommendations. With Standard there’s a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
What affects the cost of gutter surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Height and safe access
A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. You’ll know the price for your survey before booking.
Booking your survey
When you call or email, these details help:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and why you want it surveyed. We’ll explain the options and the price.
How the survey works
Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the roof space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Parking around Shaw is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are looked at from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can be seen safely.
- The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.

What we can’t see
No survey can tell you everything, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
- The inside of buried drains
- The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll recommend the right survey. What our survey covers.

Checking the roof from the ground
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
Why it’s worth a survey now in Shaw
A dripping joint or sagging bracket will not get better on its own. Each heavy rain puts more water where it shouldn’t be, on walls, timber and sometimes inside. A survey now tells you what needs doing and how urgent it is. On a bungalow or cottage around Shaw, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.
Our price is from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, including VAT, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Shaw
Shaw House, about 0.3 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Shaw. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Whichever you have, the details that tend to fail before the covering itself get the closest look.
If you live near a park such as Victoria Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching. If you own a rental within reach of Newbury Racecourse station, a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. For an older house near a landmark such as Parish Church of St Mary, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

Useful tips for Shaw property owners
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Make sure downpipe clips are holding
- Watch for green marks down the brickwork
- Watch ceilings under valley gutters for fresh marks
- Check from the ground or a window, not a ladder
If we think the problem lies underground, we’ll say so, so you can arrange a drain survey. We also note anything else we spot on the roof while we are there.
Have overhanging branches and climbing plants cut back from the roof by someone who can do it safely. Fewer leaves in the gutters means fewer blockages.
