Local roofs in Stroude

Botleys Mansion, about 2.7 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Stroude. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.

Anyone responsible for a site like St Ann's Heath Junior School will know that large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Christ Church, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs.

Stroude is about 1 mile south of Egham, in Surrey. Anywhere in Stroude, we can come and survey your property, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday. We cover towns and villages across Surrey, from the larger towns to small villages. Our Guildford page covers surveys nearby.

We cover every part of GU25 and TW20 for gutter surveys. Whether your property is on Edgell Close, Stroude Road and Whitehall Farm Lane or anywhere close by, we can survey it. Gutter survey in Stroude

People book a gutter survey when gutters overflow, when damp appears or before the wetter months. Landlords and managing agents use it to plan maintenance and buyers sometimes want the gutters looked at before they exchange. The survey and report follow the same steps whatever the reason with photos and clear recommendations. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. Common reasons to book are rotten fascias or stained soffits and sagging gutters and loose brackets, across eaves gutters, parapet and box gutters and valley gutters.

In a village or hamlet like Stroude, older cottages and farmhouses frequently sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on everything that’s safely in view, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs frequently need the most attention.

The report records the gutter as we found it on the day. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

FAQs for Stroude

Can a landlord with a rental near Virginia Water station book a roof survey?

Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, including who will give access on the day.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Stroude?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Does someone need to be in?

If the survey includes the loft or the inside of the building, someone needs to let us in. We will talk about access when you book.

How much time does the visit need?

A visit normally takes an hour or two at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. You will know roughly how long when we arrange the visit.

What’s in the report?

A written report with photos, explaining the condition of the gutter, any defects and our recommendations, with the most urgent first where relevant. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Can a gutter survey explain damp on my walls?

Leaking gutters and downpipes are a common cause of damp walls, and we check for exactly that. If the evidence points elsewhere, we’ll say so as far as we can tell from what’s visible.

Checking the roof from the ground

It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking.

You can learn a lot from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.

What a survey costs

Our packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Height and safe access
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone

We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:

  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • What kind of property and roof it is

Unsure which package suits your roof? The easiest way is to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll explain the options and the price.

How the survey works

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. All told, expect about 1–2 hours at a house, depending on how many gutter runs and downpipes there are. Somewhere as small as Stroude, access is often the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First, we agree the areas to focus on.
  2. We look along each run for debris, sagging and drips.
  3. We check the outlets, hoppers, downpipes and any overflows.
  4. We check fascias, soffits and walls for water damage.
  5. Findings are photographed and set out in a written report.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Check we can get to the back of the property

Surveys for landlords and agents in Stroude

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Freeholders and residents’ companies use a roof report to plan and budget, with the most urgent items set out first.

Signs you need a gutter survey in Stroude

Lots of tiled and slate roofs carry moss, and rain washes it down into the gutters. With grit from the coverings, it forms a thick sludge that holds water in the gutter and lets weeds take root.

Common reasons to book include:

  • Choked outlets or hopper heads
  • Valley or box gutters that overflow inside
  • Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
  • Gutters overflowing in heavy rain

Homes near green spaces such as Riverside Walk can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn.
