Wrecclesham Gutter Survey
A survey of gutters, valleys, outlets and downpipes in Wrecclesham, with drones and thermal imaging where they help. Get in touch for a price.
- Dripping or leaking gutter joints
- Brackets that have dropped or snapped
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
Tips that help
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Book gutter clearing once a year, more frequently near trees
- Look for new stains on ceilings below valleys after rain
- Don’t climb a ladder to look in the gutters
- Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
Report times depend on the package you choose: within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. It is sent to you by email once it is done.
Hidden gutters need clearing too. They collect leaves and silt just like eaves gutters but they’re much harder to spot, so check they’re included in any clearing work.
About our gutter survey in Wrecclesham
Most gutters hang from the fascia boards at the eaves, so we check the fascias and soffits too. Water that overflows for long enough can rot timber fascias and stain the soffits below. On buildings from before 2000, some soffits and rainwater goods may be asbestos cement. We don’t carry out asbestos testing, so we flag anything that might contain it for a specialist asbestos surveyor to check. Common reasons to book are dripping or leaking gutter joints and water backing up from a hidden gutter, across downpipes, valley gutters and eaves gutters.
In a smaller place like Wrecclesham, homes range from older cottages to bungalows and newer houses. Older roofs can have slate, clay tiles or other traditional coverings, while many later ones have concrete tiles. Chimneys, valleys and gutters on older homes frequently need the most attention, and the fixings under the coverings matter too. The fixings under an older roof often fail before good slates or tiles do.
Where we cannot see part of the gutter, the report says so. That way, it is clear what was covered and what wasn’t.

Leave it or get it looked at?
Water spilling from a gutter runs down and soaks the wall below. Left for months, that can lead to damp inside, worn pointing and rotten timber. Finding the cause now typically keeps the fix smaller. Arranging work in a smaller place like Wrecclesham is easier with notice than in an emergency. Knowing early gives you time to get the right people in.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Wrecclesham homes and their roofs
Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. Historic houses such as Farnham Castle, about 1.6 miles north-east, show how far back building in the area around Wrecclesham goes. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If you live in an older home near St Peter's Church, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first. Landlords with a home close to Farnham station may find that the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.
Wrecclesham is about 1 mile south-west of Farnham, in Surrey. We visit Wrecclesham as part of our work across Surrey. Our Surrey coverage includes Wrecclesham and the places around it. Guildford is in our area too.
Here we cover the GU10 and GU9 postcode area for gutter surveys. You’ll find streets such as The Street, St Peter's Gardens and School Hill, and we cover them all. Nearby, we also carry out gutter surveys in Shortheath (1 mile east), Boundstone (1 mile south-east), Rowledge (1 mile south), Holt Pound (1 mile south-west) and Bucks Horn Oak (2 miles south-west). Within a short drive, we also cover Guildford (11 miles east), Woking (13 miles north-east), Camberley (10 miles north), Frimley (9 miles north-east), Haslemere (9 miles south-east) and Cranleigh (15 miles east).

When to book a survey in Wrecclesham
Sometimes a gutter struggles with the area of roof draining into it. Added roof area from an extension can load an older gutter, and a heavy downpour shows up the problem.
It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Water spilling over the gutter edge
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
- Leaking or loose downpipes
- Blocked outlets and hoppers
Living close to Underdown nature reserve is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls.

Your questions about gutter surveys in Wrecclesham
Will you come out to Wrecclesham?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Is my home in Wrecclesham listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Can the survey be at a weekend?
Yes. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Does someone need to be in?
Not necessarily. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.
How do I arrange a gutter survey in Wrecclesham?
To book, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.
What happens after the survey?
You will receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: use it with a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. If you need a full building survey, you will need a RICS survey as well.
What a survey costs
When we price a survey, we consider:
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Whether it’s a home or a commercial building
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.
Booking your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. Please include:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
Surveys can be booked for weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays. To find a date that works for you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and the days you’d prefer.
The survey, step by step
Photographs are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. In a smaller place like Wrecclesham, as anywhere, the forecast plays a part: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- You let us know where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- Where it is safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it is shared
- Tell us about parking before the day

Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Many homes have plastic gutters and downpipes. As the seals age, joints can start to drip, and brackets can sag under load.
Fascias and soffits
On buildings from before 2000, soffits may be asbestos cement. Any we think could be are flagged so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check them before they’re disturbed.
