Roof survey in Camber: what you get
The report is written for you, in plain language. Each defect is described with photos and a recommendation, and where it is relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. Premium adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where it applies and a same-day report. Each report is emailed to you. If you’re worried about slates or tiles that have slipped or broken and water stains on rafters and ceiling joists, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on ridges, hips and valleys, the roof space and natural slate alike.
In a small place like Camber, many roofs stand in the open, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A roof report shows what needs attention first. On exposed older roofs, chimneys and lead flashings are frequently the first to give way.
We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

DIY checks: what’s safe
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Camber: your questions answered
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Rye station?
Yes, letting agents and landlords book with us as well as owners. You can ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and some details, including who will give access on the day.
Do roofs near the sea, like those around Camber, take more of a battering?
Generally, yes: wind and salt air take more of a toll near the sea. Ridges, verges, flashings and fixings are where it normally shows, and Camber is within about 1 mile of the coast.
What insurance do you have?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Tell us about it when you book and we will plan the survey around it.
What’s the best way to book?
Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day.
Can you inspect a terraced or semi-detached roof?
Yes. We survey the parts of the roof you have access to. If a problem seems to come from next door, we will say so.
What do you check on a roof survey?
We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, along with the loft where it’s safe. You get a report with photos and recommendations.
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Managing agents and residents’ management companies use roof surveys to plan maintenance. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant, which helps with budgets and planning.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too. Larger roofs take longer.

Camber homes and their roofs
Camber lies within about 1 mile of the sea, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you own a rental within reach of Rye station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. Historic houses such as Lamb House, about 2.8 miles west, show how far back building around Camber goes. If your house is among the older ones, the roof may have been repaired many times, and the survey records how each part is holding up. For an older house near a landmark such as St Thomas the Apostle, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

What we look for on each type of roof
Clay plain and peg tiles
Clay tiles are common on older South East homes, and some have Kent peg tiles held by pegs. When pegs or battens rot, tiles slip.
Concrete interlocking tiles
Ridge and verge mortar on concrete tile roofs can crack and fall away. We check for loose ridge tiles and missing mortar, as wind can lift them.
Tips that help
Some practical points come up on survey after survey. They’re worth knowing whatever the roof:
- Stay off ladders and the roof
- Gather any paperwork for past roof work
- Keep the report with your property records
- Include dormers, porches and garages when you book
Any roofer you ask to quote can work from the report. The photos show what we found and where, which makes quotes easier to compare.
Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. Look for water marks, damp wood and chinks of light. Photograph anything new.
How it works
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Somewhere like Camber needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.
- You let us know about the property and any concerns.
- We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
- We inspect from ground level, from windows, from the roof space and from the roof where safe.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Prices for roof surveys in Camber
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- The roof’s overall size
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.
