Cheapside Roof Survey
Roof surveys in Cheapside from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. Over 5,000 surveys and 20+ years behind us across London and South East England.
- Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles
- Loose chimney pots
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
How it works
Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes about one to two hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Cottages and farmhouses around Cheapside often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We help you choose a Basic, Standard or Premium Survey.
- On the day, we start by hearing what you’ve noticed.
- We inspect and photograph every part of the roof we can safely see.
- Moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging or a drone are added where your package includes them.
- The report is emailed with findings and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Find any records of previous roof work
- Leave a clear route to the loft

Advice
Roof surveys for homes and businesses in Cheapside
Everything we check, we check safely: from ground level, from windows, from the loft space and from the roof where conditions allow. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where it applies, which helps with tall or steep roofs. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. If you’re worried about debris building up in roof valleys and blocked, sagging or leaking gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Cheapside, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Roofs there can be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, and chimney stacks are often old. Each needs checking in its own way, and thatch is a specialist material we report on as far as it can be seen. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.
Nothing in the report is left vague: where something needs attention, it says so plainly.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry, as it helps us focus the survey.
What a roof survey looks like in Cheapside
Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, with flat-roofed extensions, dormers and garages common everywhere. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first. With St Leonard's Hill about 3.4 miles north, Cheapside sits in an area with a long building history. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
For landlords with property near Ascot station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at. If you live near a park such as Silwood Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. Take a building like Cheapside CofE Primary School: large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Cheapside
Leaving it means relying on what you can see from the ground. You might pay for work that doesn’t fix the real problem, or miss the fault that matters. We tell you what’s really needed. For an older or listed building in a place like Cheapside, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
Prices start from £150, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT.

Useful tips for Cheapside property owners
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:
- Check the roof from ground level after storms
- Photograph stains when they appear
- Include dormers, porches and garages when booking
- Keep the report with your property records
Any roofer you ask to quote can work from the report. They’ll see each defect and its location, which makes quotes easier to compare.
After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.
Questions from Cheapside
Do you cover smaller places like Cheapside?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned ahead of time.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Cheapside?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
What’s covered in a roof inspection?
Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all checked, plus the roof space where there’s safe access. You get a photo-illustrated written report and recommendations.
Are you insured?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. If we see signs that need an engineer, like serious sagging, we’ll say so. We do not provide structural calculations.
How experienced are you?
We’ve completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
What does a roof survey cost?
Prices start from £150, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, including VAT.

How the survey changes by roof type
Flat roof coverings
A felt roof often lasts around 15 to 20 years, while EPDM rubber frequently lasts 30 to 50 years and GRP up to about 30. We check its condition and the signs of age.
Clay plain and peg tiles
Handmade and machine-made clay tiles are long-lasting. We check for cracked, slipped and missing tiles.
