Roof Survey in Little Portugal
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you decide what to do next. We carry out roof surveys in Little Portugal, with photographs and a clear written report.
- Ridge tiles that have lifted or moved
- Gutters that overflow in heavy rain
- Debris building up in roof valleys
What affects the cost of roof surveys
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- How big the roof is
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Booking your survey
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- When you need the report by
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
Every survey is priced before it’s booked, so you know where you stand. Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. For a price for your roof, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Roof survey in Little Portugal
The report is written for you, in plain language. Every issue comes with photos and a written recommendation, and we rank them by urgency where that helps. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, a drone where applicable and a same-day report. Reports are sent by email. Common reasons to book are ridge tiles that have lifted or moved and standing water on a flat roof, on lead flashings, the roof space and flat roofs.
A London butterfly roof slopes down to a central valley gutter that drains to the back of the house. From the street you see only a parapet wall, so blocked outlets and split linings go unnoticed until water comes through a ceiling. If your home in Little Portugal has one, it needs checking from somewhere that can actually see it.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Different roofs, different checks
Chimney stacks
Each chimney’s pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings are checked. Leaning stacks and loose pots are recorded.
Natural slate
Slate is common on older homes in London and South East England. Widespread slipping typically points to corroded nails, which we describe in the report.
Questions from Little Portugal
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Little Portugal?
It depends on the street. Where there are permit zones, a visitor permit or nearby pay-and-display bay works well.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Little Portugal?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Little Portugal is about 1 mile from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
What does a roof survey include?
Every part of the roof we can safely see: coverings, ridges, valleys, flashings, chimneys, gutters and the loft. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check, and Premium adds thermal imaging and a drone where applicable.
Are you insured?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and we can provide details if a managing agent needs them.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. We do not carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on older buildings, we flag them and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
How long does the visit take?
On site, it usually takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. Report times depend on the package.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access when booking.

What you can safely check yourself
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
What we do, step by step
Once we’ve finished looking, we write up our findings as a photo-illustrated written report. On timing, most surveys take between one and two hours at most homes, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Surveys in Little Portugal can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.
- We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
- We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- We inspect from ground level, from windows, from the roof space and from the roof where safe.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Honest limits
Before you book, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:
- What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- A promise that the roof won’t leak in future
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will suggest the right survey before you book. What our survey covers.
Roof types and parts we check
- The roof space
- Chimney stacks
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- Natural slate
- Lead flashings
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Flat roofs
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.
Shared roofs need a little more planning: we need access agreed with the freeholder or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the visit with that in mind.
