About our roof survey in Northfields
Our roof surveys cover Northfields and the wider South East. We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and bring 20+ years’ experience. Each survey ends with a written report, emailed with photos and recommendations. Houses, flats and commercial buildings all follow the same careful process. To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or email us. We survey chimney stacks, natural slate and the roof space, and the problems we are asked to look at most are blocked, sagging or leaking gutters and water stains on rafters and ceiling joists.
London has Victorian and Edwardian terraces in almost every borough, frequently with slate roofs, chimney stacks shared with neighbours and gutters hidden behind parapets. Good slates can last over a hundred years, yet the nails frequently give out first and let slates slip. Homes in Northfields are no exception. Shared chimney stacks and the lead around them are just as important to check.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

What happens on the day
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. A typical visit takes an hour or two for an ordinary house roof, and longer if there are extensions, dormers or several chimneys. Many London properties are flats or terraces with no side access, so the back of the roof is often seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, let us know when you book.
- We start with the property details and any concerns.
- We agree a date, including weekends if that suits you.
- We look at the roof from every safe vantage point outside.
- We then look in the loft for damp, staining and the condition of the underlay.
- You receive the report with photos and recommendations, prioritised by urgency.
Preparing for the visit
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

FAQs for Northfields
I let a flat near Brentford station. Can you check the roof?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you need.
Is parking a problem for a survey in Northfields?
London parking needs a little planning, so let us know about permits, bays or a driveway when booking. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
Are you insured?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
How experienced are you?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, and 98% of customers are satisfied.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
What’s the best way to book?
The quickest way is to ring 07833 053749 or email us. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we will take it from there. Surveys run seven days a week.
How long does the visit take?
It usually takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how many separate roofs there are. Report times depend on the package.
Practical tips
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Include dormers, porches and garages as you book
- Find records of any re-roofing or repairs
- Don’t climb onto the roof yourself
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
File the report with your other home documents. It gives you something to compare against later, and buyers may ask about the roof when you sell.
After a storm, check the roof from the garden and the street. Fragments of slate or tile on the ground mean something has shifted. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.
What this survey cannot tell you
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- A structural engineer’s report
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
- Faults hidden behind ceilings or boarding
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
Roof types and parts we check
- Lead flashings
- Natural slate
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Chimney stacks
- The roof space
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- Flat roofs
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
Roof by roof
Concrete interlocking tiles
Many post-war houses have concrete interlocking tiles. They last well, but their surface erodes slowly, and they can crack.
Flat roof coverings
A felt roof frequently lasts around 15 to 20 years, EPDM rubber around 30 to 50 and GRP up to about 30. We check how the covering is wearing.
Why get it checked now?
Many roofs go years without anyone looking at them closely. A survey sets a baseline, so you can compare it next time. Any roof job in Northfields means planning around parking, neighbours and access. That is a good reason to find problems early, while there’s time to plan, rather than in a rush after a leak.
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all inc. VAT. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Why us?
- Surveys on any day of the week
- A written report with photographs
- Clear package prices, inc. VAT
- Over 5,000 surveys carried out
Roof surveys around Northfields
Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you let a flat or house near Brentford station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let. For businesses in and around places such as Treaty Centre, a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak. Living close to Lammas Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn.
