Independent drone roof surveys in Northfields

Landlords, agents and block managers in Northfields

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. Recommendations are set out with the most urgent first where relevant, which helps with budgets and planning.

If the property is let, the agent or a tenant can let us in. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which can make access easier.

Drone roof survey in Northfields: what you get

The weather decides whether a drone can fly. Strong wind or a downpour rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we’ll agree another day. We check the forecast ahead of the visit and again on site. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. We are often asked to look into slipped or missing slates on a high roof and tired mortar and pots at the top of a stack, on chimney stacks, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.

Flying in London takes more checking than most places: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Northfields, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

What we are asked to look at in Northfields

Many roofs are never seen properly from the ground. Rear slopes, valleys and the tops of chimneys are hidden. Faults there can go unnoticed for years.

A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:

  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters
  • Lead work pulling away at abutments
  • Moss and weeds taking hold up top

Parking in Northfields, as in most of London, takes a little planning: tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space when you book, as a space near the door cannot be promised.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • When you’ll get the report
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
  • What they will not be able to tell you

What a roof survey includes

What happens if roof problems are left?

Leaving a slipped slate or a blocked valley can turn a small fault into a leak. Finding them now means less to put right, whatever height the roof is. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. When the stain finally shows, the damage underneath is frequently older than it looks.

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

Why book with us

  • More than 20 years surveying roofs
  • Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Surveys seven days a week
  • Clear package prices, with VAT included

Checking the roof from the ground

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and falls from height are serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Honest limits

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • Photos in conditions too poor to fly
  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Neighbouring roofs the owner hasn’t asked us to survey

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters

FAQs for Northfields

Is parking a problem for a survey in Northfields?

It can be, so it’s useful to tell us about permits, visitor bays or off-street space as you book. That way the visit can be planned around it.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Northfields?

It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Do I have to be there for the survey?

Not always. An outside-only look can be arranged beforehand, but anything inside needs someone there to give access.

How long does the survey take?

Expect it to take roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You will then get the report by email.

What happens after the survey?

You’ll receive the report by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

What’s in the report?

A written report with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

How it works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a photo-illustrated written report, sent to you by email. On timing, it normally takes an hour or two for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Otherwise, the visit in Northfields runs like any other.

  1. You give us the address so we can check the airspace.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. We fly the drone close to the roof to photograph it in detail, always in sight.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
