Chertsey Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof for Chertsey, from an experienced roof surveyor. You get a clear written report with photographs.
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
Different roofs, different checks
Loft insulation
Insulation frequently gets moved during work in the loft. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
These coverings sit directly on the layers beneath, so temperature differences frequently show through. Any patterns are checked with moisture readings.
Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Chertsey
We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it is easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey ceilings below the roof, pitched roof slopes and loft conversions, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are wet areas near outlets and upstands and leaks that are hard to trace.
Around Chertsey, lots of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you can’t see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Even so, a close-up image often shows wear on ridges and flashings that a view from ground level misses.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

DIY checks: what’s safe
It’s useful to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Chertsey questions
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Chertsey?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Do you cover smaller places like Chertsey?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.
Will the survey show heat loss through my roof?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Visits run seven days a week in the daytime, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days when booking.
What do I do with the report?
The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation.
The survey, step by step
Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit usually takes an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a smaller place like Chertsey, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from ground level, with the loft showing the underside, while taller roofs may need other vantage points or the drone where it applies.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Before the survey
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear

- The roof’s overall size
A Basic Survey starts from £150, inc. VAT. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.
Getting in touch
There’s no need for technical words. Just let us know:
- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- The reason for the survey, such as buying, a leak or storm damage
- The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat

What a thermal roof survey doesn’t cover
Before you book, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:
- Proving moisture from the images alone
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
What we check
- Loft conversions
- Flat roofs
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Commercial roofs
Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- File the images with your roof records
- Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
After the visit, we put the thermal images, photos and moisture readings into one report. Each image is explained in plain words, alongside what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Insulation is frequently moved when people work in the loft space.
Airspace, weather and Chertsey roofs
Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from ground level, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. About 1.5 miles south-west lies Botleys Mansion, a reminder of how long the area around Chertsey has been built on. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Chertsey, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it is worth knowing the roof’s condition. If you look after a building such as St Anne's Catholic Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
