About our thermal roof survey in East End

A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. If a finding can’t be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. If you are worried about damp patches with no obvious cause and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Villages like East End frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

How the survey works

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. The inspection then takes roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Older roofs in small places like East End can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.

  1. We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed

What happens if roof problems are left?

For buyers, a thermal survey adds detail that a visual inspection cannot give. Hidden problems found before exchange can be raised with the seller or agent. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like East End, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all including VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.

Why book with us

  • Insured for professional indemnity and public liability
  • Packages from £150, inc. VAT
  • 98% customer satisfaction
  • More than 20 years surveying roofs

Take a look at how roof surveys are priced or two real surveys.

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

When you need someone else

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Confirming water without moisture readings
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
  • A formal energy assessment

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Commercial roofs

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:

  • Keep a record of when stains appear
  • Check the loft can be reached safely
  • Keep outlets and gutters clear to stop water sitting
  • Don’t climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself

Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.

After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.

When to book a survey in East End

Building owners and managing agents use thermal surveys to plan work on larger flat roofs. Patterns can point to wet areas and show which parts look sound, so we know where to take moisture readings.

Signs worth acting on include:

  • Damp patches with no obvious cause
  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
  • Heat escaping through the roof

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • What happens after the report arrives
  • Their track record with similar roofs
  • Their insurance cover

Thermal roof surveys around East End

East End is within about 1 mile of the coast, and wind off the sea can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

Beaulieu Palace House lies about 3.5 miles north-east, so building around East End goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. For site and facilities teams at buildings like South Baddesley Church of England Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.

East End is about 3 miles north-east of Lymington, in Hampshire. In East End, as across Hampshire, every roof gets the same careful survey. Across Hampshire, we cover East End and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.

Postcode districts we cover here for thermal roof surveys: SO41. Whether your property is on Rowes Lane, Norleywood Road and Lymington Road or a nearby road, we can help. If you’re just outside East End, we cover Norleywood (1 mile north-west), Thorns Beach (2 miles east), Hamstead (4 miles south-east), Cranmore (5 miles south) and Bouldnor (5 miles south). We also work in nearby towns such as Gosport (15 miles east), Eastleigh (15 miles north-east), Fareham (14 miles north-east), Totton (10 miles north), Chandler's Ford (15 miles north) and Hedge End (13 miles north-east).

FAQs for East End

Will you come out to East End?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Do you carry out roof surveys in East End?

Yes, East End is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. Just call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property.

Does someone need to be in?

That depends on the survey. For inside areas and the roof space, someone has to give us access, while outside access can be discussed as you book.

How experienced are you?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.

Which survey includes thermal imaging?

It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

It’s a useful tool for tracing leaks, but not the only one. What it shows depends on the weather and the roof. If the source cannot be confirmed, we will say what could help next, such as electronic leak detection.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.
