Common questions in Fetcham

Do you cover Fetcham?

Yes, Fetcham is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Fetcham as anywhere else.

Is Fetcham within the area you cover?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

How long is the visit?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take about one to two hours for most houses, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. The written report follows by email.

Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?

It often helps show where to look. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. It is used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings, as the camera alone cannot prove a leak.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We point out what can be seen, such as sagging or deflection, but we are not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. Where an engineer is needed, we say so in the report.

Do you use drones?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We fly a sub-250g drone and we’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Thermal roof survey in Fetcham

Our Premium Survey, from £400, brings together a full roof inspection and thermal imaging. You also get a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a report on the same day. An in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up are included too. To book, just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. Typical surveys look at gaps in loft insulation and water that travels before it shows, across ceilings below the roof, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes.

Around Fetcham, a good many roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Flying and imaging in Fetcham

In Surrey, older roofs are often handmade clay tile, with tile-hanging on many upper walls. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. The wider area around Fetcham has a long history of building, with Polesden Lacey about 2.4 miles south. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

Take an older house close to Church of St. Mary: tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. Anyone responsible for a site like Oakfield Junior School will know that a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Fetcham

Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.

Useful tips for Fetcham property owners

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Check from the ground or a window, never by climbing

The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.

Keep an eye on ceilings under the roof for new stains. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.

Honest limits

A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it cannot do everything. Its limits include:

  • Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
  • Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough

What affects the price in Fetcham

Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • Building height and the viewpoints available
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages

What to let us know when you get in touch

Before you get in touch, it helps to have:

  • Any deadline, like an exchange date
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Where water is showing inside, if it is
  • The property’s address and postcode

To book a survey, phone 07833 053749 or email us and let us know the address and what’s prompted the survey. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. Most surveys take about 1–2 hours at a typical home, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. In a smaller place like Fetcham, parking is seldom the issue; lanes, gates and long drives are worth mentioning. Low roofs on bungalows can often be seen well from ground level, and the loft shows the rest.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Leave side gates unlocked
