Thermal roof surveys in Hilden Park

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Hilden Park

Flat roofs over extensions, garages, flats and commercial buildings are where thermal imaging often helps most. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. If you are worried about cold areas below the roof and water that travels before it shows, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on flat roofs, insulated roof spaces and loft conversions alike.

Villages like Hilden Park frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. Strong wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

What we do, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so you can see in the report what we found and where. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes between one and two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Hilden Park, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building

Flying and imaging in Hilden Park

Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Older houses across Kent frequently have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. The county’s older buildings also include oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Historic houses such as Ightham Mote, about 3.4 miles north, show how far back building around Hilden Park goes. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself. Anyone responsible for a site like Stocks Green Primary School will know that thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.

Hilden Park is about 1 mile north-west of Tonbridge, in Kent. We carry out thermal roof surveys in Hilden Park for houses, flats, blocks and commercial buildings. We cover towns and villages across Kent, large and small. For surveys nearby, see our Maidstone page.

Thermal roof surveys in TN11 and TN10 are booked the same way as anywhere else. We also cover Hildenborough (1 mile north-west), Stocks Green (1 mile west), Coldharbour (1 mile north), Watt's Cross (2 miles north-west) and Budds (3 miles north). Hilden Park: your questions answered

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hilden Park?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

Will you come out to Hilden Park?

Yes, Hilden Park is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.

How quickly is the report sent?

Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it helps and the rules allow, yes. Our sub-250g drone is flown by a CAA-registered operator with a Flyer ID and Operator ID, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?

On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and cannot tell you, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

What happens next?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Honest limits

No survey can tell you everything, and it is better to know them up front. Keep these in mind:

  • Readings unaffected by sun, shade or reflections
  • An energy rating for the building
  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What we check

  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Pitched roof slopes

Tips from our surveys

A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:

  • Keep the report to compare against after any repair
  • Don’t switch the heating off before the visit
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
  • Note where damp appears and after what weather

The report explains the conditions on the day and how they affected the images. That way you know how much weight to give each finding.

Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Insulation is often moved when people work in the loft space.

Why act early in Hilden Park

For buyers, a thermal survey adds detail that a visual inspection cannot give. Hidden problems found before exchange can be raised with the seller or agent. For older village homes like those around Hilden Park, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

When to book a survey in Hilden Park

Building owners and managing agents use thermal surveys to plan work on larger flat roofs. It can suggest which areas may be wet and which seem dry, so moisture readings can be targeted.

Problems we come across often include:

  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Wet insulation beneath the membrane
  • Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
  • Patches of heat loss across the roof

The streets around a church such as Parish Church of St John are often among the oldest in a place, and if you own one of the older houses nearby, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • Is there a chance to talk the report through?
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
