Questions from Mansbridge
Will you come out to Mansbridge?
Yes. Mansbridge is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when you book.
Are there drone restrictions around Mansbridge?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. Mansbridge is inside, or right on the edge of, the flight restriction zone around Southampton Airport. Before any flight there, we ask the airport for permission, and the flight only goes ahead if it is given. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
It can show temperature patterns that point to missing or thin insulation. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. We look from the loft as well, where there’s safe access.
What conditions are best for thermal imaging?
The weather makes a real difference. A sunny day beforehand, a dry surface and calm air all help. Rain and strong wind can make the images less clear, so we discuss the forecast when booking.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it is disturbed.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day.
Thermal roof survey in Mansbridge: what you get
Thermal imaging is often most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. It can show patterns that point to trapped moisture under the membrane. Pitched roofs with slates or tiles are often harder to read, because of the air space beneath, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. We survey ceilings below the roof, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are patches of heat loss across the roof and damp that repairs haven’t cured.
Around Mansbridge, plenty of roofs are low enough to see partly from the garden or the street. The parts you can’t see, like rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. If something couldn’t be seen safely, the report is clear about it.

Drones, thermal imaging and Mansbridge roofs
The coast is about 4 miles or less from Mansbridge. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. South Stoneham House, about 0.5 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Mansbridge. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
For an older house near a landmark such as St. Mary's Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you run a business near Marlands Shopping Centre, big, flat commercial roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images help most.

What we do, step by step
Before we start, tell us why you’ve booked: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. A visit to a smaller place like Mansbridge is no different on the day: we look from ground level, from windows, from the loft and from the roof where it is safe. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Preparing for the visit
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Note where any stains or damp appear
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Advice
DIY checks: what’s safe
Your own check is a good start, but it isn’t a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Mansbridge
Building owners and managing agents use thermal surveys to plan work on larger flat roofs. It can suggest which areas may be wet and which seem dry, so moisture readings can be targeted.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Cold areas below the roof
- Damp patches with no obvious cause
- Heat escaping through the roof
Take a building like Mansbridge Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Are they insured for the work?
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Letting agents and landlords in Mansbridge book surveys as well as householders. A written report with photographs gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.
How we price thermal roof surveys
Our packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Height and safe access
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you need to know.
Helping us price your survey
The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it helps to mention:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- The property’s address and postcode
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
If you’re buying, it helps to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email when you’re ready.
Why get it checked now?
Trapped water can harm decks, timbers and ceilings the longer it stays. Looking now, while the damage may still be limited, keeps more options open. Homes in smaller places like Mansbridge can face more weather, so a loose ridge or verge soon lets rain in. Each storm lifts it a little further, and water follows.
Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.
