Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Mead End

Do you carry out roof surveys in Mead End?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Mead End as anywhere else.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Mead End?

We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

How do I arrange a thermal roof survey in Mead End?

Just phone 07833 053749 or email us. After a few questions, we confirm the price and fix a day, weekday or weekend.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

It’s part of the Premium Survey, from £400. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.

How soon will I get the report?

Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. All of them come by email.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.

Thermal roof survey in Mead End: what you get

A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp is not obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so the findings do not rely on the camera alone. We are frequently asked to look into moisture around outlets and upstands and damp around chimneys and parapets, on pitched roof slopes, loft conversions and ceilings below the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Mead End may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

It is not only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

Different roofs, different checks

Parapets, valleys and junctions

When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.

Single-ply and EPDM roofs

On larger commercial single-ply roofs, thermal imaging can help target moisture readings. It focuses the survey on the areas that matter.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Mead End?

Unexplained damp is one of the main reasons people ask for thermal imaging. Water can travel under a roof covering or along timbers before it shows inside. Temperature patterns can help narrow down where to look.

It is worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:

  • Missing or slipped insulation
  • Ceilings that feel colder in places
  • Damp around chimneys and parapets
  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured

If you look after a building such as Tiptoe Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • When you’ll get the report
  • Whether you can ask questions once you have the report
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA

What a good roof survey covers

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we look at the roof.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Mead End

To price your survey, we look at:

  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • How big the roof is
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

What we need to know

The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it helps to mention:

  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date
  • What kind of property and roof it is
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
  • Any photos you have, taken from the ground or a window

You can call us seven days a week. For a price or to book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

How the survey works

There is not much for you to do on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we will get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. For a village or hamlet like Mead End, the journey is planned beforehand: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. You tell us about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
  2. The weather and surface conditions are recorded.
  3. We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
  4. Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
  5. The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Getting a price

Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the details.

Advice

Drones, thermal imaging and Mead End roofs

The coast is about 4 miles or less from Mead End, and wind off the sea can be strong. Calm, dry conditions after a sunny day suit thermal imaging best, so the visit is planned around the forecast. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.

Highcliffe Castle, about 4.8 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Mead End. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near St Andrew, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Mead End is about 4 miles north-west of Lymington, in Hampshire. Whether the building in Mead End is a house, a flat or a commercial unit, we can survey the roof. Our area takes in places right across Hampshire, large and small. We also survey roofs in Southampton.

Thermal roof surveys in SO41 are booked the same way as anywhere else. If you need a thermal roof survey at a property on Marley Mount and Boundway or a nearby road, we can survey it. Useful tips for Mead End property owners

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:

  • Talk to us about the weather when booking
  • Keep a record of when stains appear
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare

Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. It’s your decision how to use it, whether that is asking for work or discussing the price.

Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Insulation is frequently moved when people work in the loft space.
