Thermal Roof Survey in Pitch Place
Thermal imaging to find moisture and heat loss patterns in a roof in Pitch Place, carried out by an experienced roof surveyor. Every survey comes with a written report and photographs.
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Gaps in loft insulation
Thermal roof survey in Pitch Place: what you get
We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. A follow-up 12 months later is included too. If you’ve noticed stains that keep coming back and thin or uneven insulation in the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Pitch Place, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Weather and airspace are looked at before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You’ll know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

What we look for on each type of roof
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
Built-up felt and asphalt roofs can hide trapped water for a long time. The camera can give clues to where it’s sitting, when the conditions allow.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water under a GRP roof can reach the timber deck. The camera can help show where to look.
How the survey works
Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes an hour or two for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Rural addresses near Pitch Place can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Before we arrive
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Pitch Place questions
Is my home in Pitch Place listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Will you come out to Pitch Place?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
How much does a thermal roof survey cost?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and a same-day report.
What does a thermal roof survey show?
A thermal camera shows differences in surface temperature. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or heat escaping. Findings are checked with moisture readings.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing aren’t part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?
It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.
Useful tips for Pitch Place property owners
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Note where damp appears and after what weather
- Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
- Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
If the images suggest moisture that can’t be confirmed, we’ll say what would help next, for instance electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.
Keep outlets and gutters clear so water drains off the roof quickly. The less water sits, the less can find its way beneath.
What a thermal roof survey looks like in Pitch Place
Older houses across Surrey frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging. A few of Surrey’s oldest buildings have heavy Horsham stone slab roofs. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Around Pitch Place, as everywhere, small roof faults are simplest to sort before they let water in. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Michael and All Angels, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book.
