Questions from Chiswick
Are there drone restrictions around Chiswick?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Chiswick is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.
Can parking be tricky for a visit in Chiswick?
It can be, so it helps to let us know about permits, visitor bays or off-street space as you book. The visit is then planned around what’s available.
How many surveys have you done?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
What will the report tell me?
A written report with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. Visible signs like deflection or sagging are recorded, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. The report will say if you need an engineer.
What insurance do you have?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Will I get photos?
Yes, every report has them. Pictures sit next to the findings they show, so you can see what we mean.
About our drone roof survey in Chiswick
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, with a same-day report, structural analysis and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we will say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. We’re often asked to look into blocked valleys and parapet gutters and loose ridge and hip tiles, across valleys and parapet gutters, large and complex roofs and flat roofs on upper floors.
London’s roofs are frequently hard to see from the street: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

How it works
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect everything that’s safely in view, and if part of the roof cannot be seen, the report says so. The survey normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. In a London conversion, the way into the loft space is often from a communal landing or the top flat. If that applies to your building, it is useful to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.
- You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
- Airspace restrictions are checked and permission sought where needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit
- If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at

Advice
Flying and imaging in Chiswick
Chiswick is about 2 miles from the edge of the flight restriction zone around London Heliport in Battersea. The exact boundary is checked for each address before any flight, and a roof inside it needs permission before we fly. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Livat Hammersmith, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St. Nicholas Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

What this survey can’t tell you
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:
- Close-up photos of next door’s property
- Photos in conditions too poor to fly
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we will give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.
What we look at
- Flat roofs on upper floors
- Large and complex roofs
- Valleys and parapet gutters
- Tall and steep roofs
- Fragile roofs
- Chimney stacks
Prices for drone roof surveys in Chiswick
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- How big the roof is
- The shape of the roof and its details
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:
- The property’s address and postcode
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- When you need the report by
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or send us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
What you can safely check yourself
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.
Signs you need a drone roof survey in Chiswick
Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
People usually book a survey when they’ve noticed one of these:
- Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
- Outlets choked with leaves and silt
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Ridge and hip pieces working loose
For hotels and guest houses around Chiswick, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- What exactly goes into their report
- What insurance they carry
- Their track record with similar roofs
Roof by roof
Valleys and parapet gutters
Some older terraces have a butterfly roof with a valley in the middle. You cannot see it from the street at all, but a drone shows it clearly.
Large commercial roofs
Older cement sheet roofs may contain asbestos. We flag it in the report so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check.
