Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Duckett's Green

Drones need reasonable weather. High wind or heavy rain rules out a flight, because control and safety come first. If the weather turns, we will agree another day. The forecast is checked ahead of the visit and again on the day. Calm, dry conditions give the sharpest close-up photos. Waiting for a better day is better than a rushed flight. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are lead work pulling away at abutments and chimney tops in poor condition.

London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: there are flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Before a drone goes up in Duckett's Green, the address is checked against all of them, and permission is never taken for granted.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Checking the roof from ground level

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

Before and after the survey

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Tell next door if the drone will be near their property
  • Make sure there’s room outside for the drone to take off
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Move stored items away from the hatch

Premium also includes a 12-month follow-up. It shows whether anything has moved or worn since the first visit.

Check the loft now and then, with care and a good torch. A drone sees the outside, but the loft shows leaks and condensation from below. Photograph anything new.

Drones, thermal imaging and Duckett's Green roofs

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight.

Take a building like St John Vianney RC Primary School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Bruce Castle lies about 1.2 miles north-east, so building around Duckett's Green goes back a long way. For older roofs nearby, a look from above or with a thermal imager is a hands-off way to check condition.

How the survey works

After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, sent to you by email. On timing, it typically takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. In Duckett's Green, visits are available on weekdays and at weekends. London parking is frequently by permit or pay-and-display, so it is useful to know what’s near you, and to clear a path to the loft hatch. A back bedroom window can be the best vantage point for a rear addition, so we may ask to use one.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. Any flight restriction at the address is looked at, with permission requested if required.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. We email the report with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

When to book a survey in Duckett's Green

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. With a drone, the roof is photographed without anyone stepping on it.

Most people get in touch after spotting one of these:

  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Chimney tops in poor condition
  • Plant growth and moss on the roof
  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below

Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Duckett's Green.

Questions from Duckett's Green

Is drone flying allowed in Duckett's Green?

The answer turns on the exact location and the conditions on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. A small drone cannot fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Duckett's Green?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

What does the report include?

Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.

Do you work in Duckett's Green?

Yes, we do. We carry out drone roof surveys in Duckett's Green.

How experienced are you?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Are you insured?

We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

What if it rains on the day?

A survey can typically go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.

Why act early in Duckett's Green

It is hard to plan maintenance for a roof nobody has looked at. You get photographs of every part we can see, with recommendations prioritised by urgency where relevant. You can tackle the urgent items first. A hidden valley or parapet gutter on a London house can hold water for weeks before anyone notices. When the stain finally shows, the damage underneath is frequently older than it looks.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.
