Drone roof survey in West Green, Greater London
A careful look at the roof at your property in West Green, and put it all in a written report with photos.
- Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
Leave it or get it looked at?
Close-up photos make conversations with roofers clearer. You can show exactly where the problem is. London’s older roofs often have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so a slipped slate can soon mean water inside. Left alone, that means wet timbers and plaster, which is a far bigger job than the roof fault itself.

How a drone roof survey works in West Green
Neighbours’ privacy matters on every flight. The camera stays on your roof, not on neighbouring homes and gardens. If your roof is joined to a neighbour’s, it is worth letting them know about the visit. We inspect only what the owner has asked us to. Flights are kept as short as the job allows and focused on the roof in question. We survey tall and steep roofs, large and complex roofs and fragile roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are gaps where slates or tiles have gone and plant growth and moss on the roof.
Flying in London takes more checking than most places: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in West Green is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
Most points in the report come with a picture, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Drone roof surveys around West Green
Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. In the open category, flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight. Many homes in inner London are Victorian and Edwardian terraces, often with Welsh slate roofs. From the street you may see only a parapet, with a butterfly roof and a valley gutter behind it draining to the back. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for instance near The Mall Wood Green, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from the air or with a thermal camera. Historic houses such as Bruce Castle, about 1.1 miles north-east, show how far back building around West Green goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition. For an older house near a landmark such as St Philip the Apostle, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof frequently shows up clearly on a thermal image.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in West Green
Will parking be an issue for a roof survey in West Green?
Normally it’s manageable with a little notice. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we’ll work around them.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in West Green?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you get in touch and we’ll explain what’s needed.
Are you registered with the CAA?
Yes. Our registration covers a Flyer ID and an Operator ID. We use a sub-250g drone.
Does the drone show the underside of the roof?
No. It photographs the outside, not the inside. The loft space is checked separately, where there is safe access, as damp and daylight often show there first.
Does the weather affect a drone survey?
Safety comes first, so the weather decides. We will not fly in strong wind or heavy rain. We will talk through the options if the day turns bad.
How long will you be at the property?
Typically, it takes about one to two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Pre-flight checks of the site and the weather are part of that.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from ground level.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.

The survey, step by step
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. You are welcome to ask questions while we are there. In West Green, as in much of London, lots of properties are flats or terraces without side access, so the back of the roof is frequently seen from upstairs windows, from inside or, where a flight is allowed, from the air. If the building has a managing agent or access rules, let us know when you book.
- We confirm whether a drone suits your roof.
- A date is fixed, with a fallback in case the weather turns.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- We also look inside the roof space where it is safe.
- Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.
Getting ready for the survey
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Check the loft hatch can be reached

Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To get started, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.
An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. Access is agreed with the tenant in advance.
Prices for drone roof surveys in West Green
Prices vary from roof to roof, and it comes down to:
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You will know the figure before booking.
Booking your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to tell us:
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- The kind of building and roof involved
- The address and postcode of the property
Not sure which survey you need? It’s easiest to call 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.
What we look for on each type of roof
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Outlets, edges and roof plant are common problem areas. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Old slates and clay tiles can crack underfoot. A drone avoids that, so the survey doesn’t add damage.
