Drone roof surveys for Highmoor homes and businesses

Drone roof surveys for homes and businesses in Highmoor

A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see under the coverings or into the loft. We check the loft from inside where it’s safe, because the underside tells its own story. Inside and out together tell you far more. Your report shows the drone photos alongside what we saw in the loft. Where the loft can’t be reached safely, we note it. We survey tall and steep roofs, fragile roofs and large and complex roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are blocked valleys and parapet gutters and flashings that have come away.

In a village or hamlet like Highmoor, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you can’t get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent, whichever applies.

Airspace, weather and Highmoor roofs

Greys Court, about 2 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Highmoor. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Steep or complicated roofs are often hard to see from ground level, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

The streets around a church like Church of St Paul are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. If you look after a building like Stoke Row Church of England School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

FAQs for Highmoor

Do you cover smaller places like Highmoor?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Is drone flying allowed in Highmoor?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or heavy rain also stops a small drone flying.

What happens after the survey?

We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

Do I need to be at home?

It depends on what we need to see. For inside areas and the loft space, someone has to give us access.

What does a roof survey cost?

Our price is from £400, including VAT. Our Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, all including VAT.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Visits run seven days a week in the daytime. Let us know your preferred days when booking.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.

Tips that help

Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:

  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Allow time for permission if you’re in a flight restriction zone
  • Be ready to move the date if the weather turns
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof

We email the report to you, with close-up photos from the flight. Each finding is explained in plain words, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone survey can show what has shifted.

What this survey can’t tell you

This is not a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • Anything inside the loft or under the coverings
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we’re surveying
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused

If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Large and complex roofs
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs

How the survey works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere as small as Highmoor, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are looked at.
  4. We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Point out any leaks or damp patches
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

What we look for on each type of roof

Steep slate and tile slopes

Widespread slipping on slate typically means nail fatigue. Close-up photos show how widespread it is.

Chimney stacks

The drone shows the outside of the stack, not a flue, gas or sweep inspection. If the flue needs a specialist, we’ll tell you.

What happens if roof problems are left?

With drone photos, everyone can see the same thing. You can show exactly where the problem is, which helps when you ask for quotes. Around Highmoor, older homes often have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.
