Drone roof survey in Nettlebed
Drone roof surveys are available in Nettlebed and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form. If you’re worried about ridge pieces that have lifted and vegetation in valleys and gutters, we can find out what’s behind it, whatever the roof.
Older buildings in small places like Nettlebed may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, like when you want to compare after future work.

How it works
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older roofs in small places like Nettlebed can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by making sure a drone flight makes sense for the roof.
- A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
- We fly over the roof, keeping the camera on the property we are surveying.
- Where there’s safe access, we check the loft as well.
- The report sets out what we found, with photos and recommendations.
Preparing for the visit

Roof by roof
Chimney stacks
Chimney tops are hard to see from ground level. Close-up photos show the pots, flaunching, pointing and flashings, so cracks and gaps are clear.
Steep slate and tile slopes
Steep roofs are risky to walk on. From the air, every course of slates or tiles can be seen, showing slipped, cracked and missing pieces.
Drone roof surveys around Nettlebed
About 2.7 miles south-east lies Greys Court, a reminder of how long the area around Nettlebed has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. West Oxfordshire’s older buildings frequently carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.
Take an older house close to Church of St Bartholomew: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Anyone responsible for a site like Nettlebed Community School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

FAQs for Nettlebed
How do I find out if my home in Nettlebed is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Do you cover smaller places like Nettlebed?
Yes, Nettlebed is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
How long does a drone roof survey take?
The visit typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. We’ll confirm what to expect when we arrange the visit.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
How fast do I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email.
Are there drone restrictions in central London?
Central London has restricted areas where NATS permission is needed. Where we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points.
Tips from our surveys
Nothing here needs a ladder. A few suggestions:
- Shut pets inside while we fly
- Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
- Expect a little longer if permission is needed
- A word with neighbours beforehand helps
If you need work done, roofers can work from the photos. The photos show the location and extent of every problem.
After a storm, check from the garden and the street. Debris in the garden is a sign to act on. A drone can show exactly what has moved.
Landlord and commercial surveys in Nettlebed
Letting agents frequently book on a landlord’s behalf, and the report can go to both. Access is agreed with the tenant beforehand.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
DIY checks: what’s safe
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
Why get it checked now?
Faults on high roofs tend to be found late. By that stage the damage has spread inside. A drone survey finds them sooner. In a small place like Nettlebed, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.
