About our drone roof survey in Hipley

Drone roof surveys are available in Hipley and throughout London and South East England, subject to airspace checks and the weather. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. The report includes the drone photos and our recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, call 07833 053749 or email us. If you’ve noticed eroded pointing on a chimney stack and cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

Older buildings in small places like Hipley may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from the air or with a thermal camera does not touch the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.

Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Chimney stacks

From the air, a lean or a loose pot is easy to see. Each defect is photographed for the report.

Ridges and hips

The ridge takes wind from both sides. From above, we can see loose ridges and missing mortar.

How it works

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. For a village or hamlet like Hipley, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. We arrange any permission that is needed before we fly.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

Leave it or get it looked at?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos. It is far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. For an older or listed building in a place like Hipley, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where it applies) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer, and they’re priced for the size.

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, and the report can go to both. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Drone roof surveys around Hipley

Hipley is within about 4 miles of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain, so the weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons.

Anyone responsible for a site like Newtown Soberton Infant School will know that a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of the Holy Trinity, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Hipley is about 4 miles west of Waterlooville, in Hampshire. Hipley is part of the area we cover as part of our work across London and the South East. Across Hampshire, we cover Hipley. You can also see our page for Portsmouth.

Hipley: your questions answered

Is Hipley within the area you cover?

Yes. Hipley is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Hipley?

Normally it comes down to two things: the airspace at the address and the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Will you check the loft?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

Does the report include photographs?

Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. We check the roof, not the whole building, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.

How much is a survey?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. The final figure depends on the roof and the package you choose, and it is agreed before booking.

Tips from our surveys

You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Check there is room outside for the drone to take off
  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too

Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos from the flight. Findings are set out in plain English, and recommendations are ranked by urgency where that helps.

Have high or hard-to-reach roofs surveyed every few years. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.
