  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds

Drone roof surveys for Soberton Heath homes and businesses

The survey, step by step

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe. Most surveys take an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Older roofs in small places like Soberton Heath can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. First, we check the address for flight restrictions.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The sub-250g drone takes close-up photographs of the roof, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand

Advice

Drone roof survey in Soberton Heath: what you get

Our drone weighs under 250g, and we hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID. We keep it in sight throughout, and well below the 120-metre height limit. Each flight is planned with the site and its surroundings in mind. Airspace and weather are checked before every flight. Safety comes first on every visit. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and tall and steep roofs, and the problems we are asked to look at most are moss building up on slopes and in gutters and lead work pulling away at abutments.

Somewhere as small as Soberton Heath, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Weather and airspace are checked before the visit. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

Checking the roof from ground level

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Clear the loft hatch so we can check inside too
  • Give us the full address so we can check the airspace
  • Let us know what you want to see

You get an in-person consultation with the Premium Survey to talk through the photos and findings. It’s a chance to ask about anything in the report.

Have leaves and moss cleared from gutters, valleys and outlets, ideally once the leaves have fallen. On tall buildings, use a professional with the right access equipment. Blocked hidden gutters cause many leaks.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

Leaning stacks and loose pots are easier to judge from above. We record what we find with photos.

Steep slate and tile slopes

On slate roofs, slipped slates often point to corroded nails. We can see the extent of it from above.

Prices for drone roof surveys in Soberton Heath

Several things affect the price of a survey:

  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, which starts from £400, with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Helping us price your survey

Here’s what helps us most when you contact us:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • The kind of building and roof involved

Flying and imaging in Soberton Heath

Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A number of Hampshire villages keep thatched roofs on their older buildings. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

If you live in an older home near Church of the Holy Trinity, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view by drone or thermal camera helps. Take a building like Newtown Soberton Infant School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Common questions in Soberton Heath

Is my home in Soberton Heath listed or in a conservation area?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.

Will you come out to Soberton Heath?

Yes, Soberton Heath is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and the report notes anything we couldn’t see.

Will the drone film my neighbours?

No, the camera is kept on your roof. Next door’s windows and gardens are kept out of shot as far as possible, and flights are kept short. A quick word with the neighbours is a good idea.

Will you photograph what you find?

Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see exactly what each finding refers to.

How experienced are you?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years, across London and South East England.

When does the report arrive?

Report times are set by the package. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.

What this survey can’t tell you

Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, and that sets some limits:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
  • Roofs and gardens beyond the one we are surveying

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.
