Common questions in Knapp
Is drone flying allowed in Knapp?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. A small drone can’t fly safely in high wind or heavy rain.
Do you cover smaller places like Knapp?
Yes. Knapp is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. Our area covers London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Can you survey in bad weather?
A survey can usually go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so if conditions aren’t right we’ll arrange another day with you.
How do I book a survey in Knapp?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or email us with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Do I need to be at home?
Not necessarily. If we only need the outside, we can agree that ahead of time, but the loft and any rooms with damp need someone to let us in.
How much is a survey?
Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Our three packages are Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included.
Are you structural engineers?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.
Drone roof survey in Knapp: what you get
We carry out drone roof surveys in Knapp and across London and South East England, where the airspace and the weather allow. Flights take place on weekdays and at weekends. We check the airspace for your address before booking a flight. You get a written report with close-up photos and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. Typical surveys look at storm damage on steep or tall roofs and coverings that have slipped high up on the roof, on large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and tall and steep roofs.
In a small place like Knapp, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

Different roofs, different checks
Valleys and parapet gutters
A butterfly roof drains to a central valley gutter. It’s almost impossible to see from ground level, but it is plain to see from the air.
Flat roofs on tall buildings
Flat roofs on tall buildings are frequently seen by nobody. A drone shows ponding, splits, blisters and worn upstands.
What happens on the day
We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there is safe access, from inside the loft space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey typically takes about one to two hours at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Rural addresses near Knapp can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
- We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
- Before take-off, the wind, the weather and the launch spot are checked.
- We fly the sub-250g drone close to the roof and photograph each area.
- The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.
How to prepare
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey

Advice
What affects the cost of drone roof surveys
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The size of the roof
- Height and safe access
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, from £400 including VAT. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.
Helping us price your survey
A few details help us recommend the right survey and price. When you contact us, tell us:
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- Your timetable, such as an exchange date
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
- What made you get in touch
Not sure which survey you need? It is easiest to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We will explain the options and the price.
When you need someone else
Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:
- Flying in a flight restriction zone without the airport’s permission
- A flight on a day when the weather is not safe
- Close-up photos of next door’s property

Drone roof surveys in Knapp: local notes
We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Flights in the open category stay under 120 m (400 ft), with the drone kept in sight. Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the council can say whether a street is in a conservation area. Re-roofing in different materials may need permission there.
If you look after a building such as Ampfield Church of England Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. Take an older house close to Church of St Mark: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when booking and it will help the survey.
