Drone roof survey in Lane End: what you get
A drone shows the outside of a roof very well, but it cannot see inside. Where there’s safe access, we look in the loft space too, since that is where leaks and condensation frequently show first. Together, the two give a fuller picture. The report sets out what the drone showed and what we found inside. If there’s no safe loft access, the report says so. We are often asked to look into storm damage on steep or tall roofs and flashings that have come away, across large and complex roofs, fragile roofs and valleys and parapet gutters.
Some older homes in villages like Lane End are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera does not touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend.

Why get it checked now?
Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. Close-up photos show what’s really there, slope by slope. It’s far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Prices start from £150, inc. VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400. We confirm the price for your roof before booking.

Checking the roof from ground level
You can learn a lot from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

What a drone roof survey looks like in Lane End
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.
Hinton Ampner House, about 2.8 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Lane End. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

What happens on the day
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about one to two hours for most homes, with the pre-flight checks included, and longer for big commercial roofs. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Somewhere as small as Lane End, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

FAQs for Lane End
Is Lane End within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
Are there drone restrictions around Lane End?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.
Does the weather affect the survey?
Light rain does not typically stop a survey. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
What happens next?
The report arrives by email. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.
How experienced are you?
We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have carried out more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
What we’re asked to look at in Lane End
Not every roof can take a person’s weight. Older slates and tiles break easily, and some sheet roofs are fragile. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Flat roofs on upper floors that hold water
- Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
- Plant growth and moss on the roof
- Cracked flaunching or loose chimney pots
In and around Lane End, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early.
What to check before booking
- What happens after the report arrives
- How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Their report turnaround times
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
How we price drone roof surveys
What a survey costs depends on the time and equipment it needs. That comes down to:
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
- Building height and the viewpoints available
Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We can help you choose the package that fits what you want to find out.
Booking your survey
There is no need for technical words. It is enough to let us know:

- Any deadline, such as an exchange date
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. The price is agreed before a date is set.
