About our drone roof survey in Lee-on-the-Solent

Drone roof surveys are available in Lee-on-the-Solent and throughout London and the South East, where the airspace and the weather allow. We fly on any day of the week. Every address is checked for airspace restrictions first. You get a written report with close-up photographs and recommendations. To check whether your roof suits a drone survey, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. We survey large and complex roofs, flat roofs on upper floors and chimney stacks, and people most often book us about cracked mortar along the ridge and blistered or cracked flat roof coverings.

In smaller places like Lee-on-the-Solent, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. Chimney tops, valleys and rear slopes are where close-up or thermal images help most. Both depend on the weather on the day, as calm, dry conditions suit both. Close-up images frequently show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that can’t be judged properly from the ground.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

DIY checks: what’s safe

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Before and after the survey

Here are a few things we’d tell any owner, before and after a survey:

  • Let neighbours know about the flight if your roof is shared
  • Keep dogs indoors during the visit
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn
  • Share the postcode so we can check for restrictions

Keep the photos with your property records. They give you something to compare against later.

Look at the roof from ground level after strong winds. Pieces of slate or tile on the ground mean something has moved. A drone can show exactly what has moved.

Drones, thermal imaging and Lee-on-the-Solent roofs

Lee-on-the-Solent is within about 1 mile of the coast, where wind off the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain. Lee-on-the-Solent is about 2 miles from Solent Airport, so the Drone Safety Map is checked for restrictions around it before we fly.

Take a building like Lee-On-the-Solent Infant and Nursery School: thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. With Osborne House about 4.9 miles south-west, the area around Lee-on-the-Solent has a long history. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Lee-on-the-Solent

Is my home in Lee-on-the-Solent listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you cover smaller places like Lee-on-the-Solent?

Yes, Lee-on-the-Solent is covered. Our area covers London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Asbestos surveys and sampling are not something we do. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000, with a recommendation to have a specialist asbestos surveyor check before it’s disturbed.

Can you fly a drone in central London?

Some areas need permission from NATS before any flight. Where we cannot fly, we use other safe vantage points.

Are you structural engineers?

No. We note visible signs such as sagging or deflection, but we don’t carry out calculations or give an engineer’s opinion. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.

Can the drone do thermal imaging?

The drone gives you detailed photos of the outside of the roof. Thermal imaging comes with the Premium Survey.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.

What a survey costs

We confirm the price for your roof before you book. This is what makes a difference:

  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • The use of thermal imaging or a drone
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • The roof’s overall size

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What we need to know

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • Where the property is, with the postcode
  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one

Every survey is priced before it is booked, so you know where you stand. Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. To book, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Do you need a drone roof survey in Lee-on-the-Solent?

Big commercial and industrial roofs cover a lot of ground. The drone covers the surface area by area. That gives a clearer picture of the roof as a whole.

We’re frequently asked to look at:

  • Cracked slates and tiles out of sight from below
  • Wind damage high on the roof
  • Ridge pieces that have lifted
  • Eroded pointing on a chimney stack

If you live in an older home near Church of St Faith, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How much experience they have with roofs like yours
  • What follow-up you get after the report
  • Their report turnaround times
  • Is VAT included in the price?

What’s in a roof survey

What this survey cannot tell you

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Whether the roof structure meets design loads
  • Close-up photos of next door’s property
  • A flight where airspace permission is refused

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Flat roofs on upper floors
  • Valleys and parapet gutters
  • Tall and steep roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Fragile roofs
  • Large and complex roofs

What we do, step by step

Where it’s relevant and can be reached safely, the loft space is checked as well as the outside. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Homes around Lee-on-the-Solent frequently have gardens on more than one side, which gives us room to step back and see the roof. Let us know if any side is fenced off or hard to reach. The loft, where there’s safe access, completes the picture.

  1. You give us the address and let us know about the roof.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. Close-up photos are taken of each slope, chimney, valley and gutter, with the drone always in view.
  5. The findings, photos and recommendations reach you by email.

Getting ready for the survey

  • If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
