Your questions about drone roof surveys in Ramsdean

Is my home in Ramsdean listed or in a conservation area?

We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Ramsdean?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We carry out surveys on any day of the week. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or email us.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs cannot always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

Do you work in Ramsdean?

Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, Ramsdean included.

Do you need to get into the loft?

If the survey needs it and the loft space can be reached safely, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps, and if the loft can’t be reached safely, the report says so.

Drone roof survey in Ramsdean

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. A drone inspection, where applicable, is also part of our Premium Survey, along with structural analysis, a same-day report and an in-person consultation. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. If a drone won’t help on your roof, we will say so. You get a written report with the close-up photos from the flight. Common reasons to book are chimney tops in poor condition and moss building up on slopes and in gutters, across fragile roofs, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs.

In a small place like Ramsdean, open ground can mean strong wind. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

How the survey works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and make notes for the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours at most homes, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a small place like Ramsdean, access is usually the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. First, we check whether a drone is the right tool.
  2. A visit is booked for a weekday, Saturday or Sunday, weather permitting.
  3. The roof is photographed from the air, with the camera kept on your property.
  4. If the loft can be reached safely, it’s checked too.
  5. Everything is written up, with the aerial photos and our advice.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Clear the way to the loft hatch
  • For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed

Advice

Can I check my roof myself?

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Letting agents often book on a landlord’s behalf. Access is agreed with the tenant in advance.

We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as homeowners. A photo-illustrated written report gives you a clear record of the roof.

Drones, thermal imaging and Ramsdean roofs

Older buildings may be listed or sit in a conservation area. To find out, check Historic England’s list and ask the council about conservation areas. In either case, a change of roofing material may need consent. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions.

Take a building like Langrish Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it. Take an older house close to Church of St John the Evangelist: thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image.

  • Flat roofs on upper floors

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. A few suggestions:

  • Tell us about any leaks or concerns
  • Expect a little longer if permission is needed
  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Clear a spot on the drive or lawn

The Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation to go through what the drone showed. You can ask about anything that is not clear.

Plan a drone survey every few years for tall or large roofs. Comparing surveys shows what is wearing, so small faults are dealt with early.

Leave it or get it looked at?

A drone record gives you a baseline. Next time, you can compare and see what has moved or worn. It helps when you plan ahead. Older and listed buildings around Ramsdean may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it’s urgent leaves less time to plan.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
