Gutter survey in Ludgershall

Gutters have to slope gently towards the outlet to drain properly. Sagging brackets and slipped joints leave water standing and overflowing at the low points. We check the line of each run as far as we can see it and look at the brackets and downpipe clips. You get written recommendations, prioritised by urgency where relevant. If you are worried about joints that drip after rain and soffits marked by water, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.

In a small place like Ludgershall, many roofs stand in the open, which is hard on ridges, chimneys, flashings and gutters. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.

We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photographs show what each point refers to, and recommendations are put in order of urgency where relevant.

How the survey works

We do not take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes about one to two hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Around Ludgershall, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.

  1. We start by hearing about any drips, overflows or damp patches.
  2. We look along the gutters, downpipes and fascias from ground level and from windows.
  3. Valley, parapet and box gutters are inspected as far as they can be seen safely.
  4. The roof space is checked for water marks if it’s safe to get into.
  5. You get a written report with photographs and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Have any paperwork from past roof work to hand
  • If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
  • Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller

Signs you need a gutter survey in Ludgershall

Lots of tiled and slate roofs carry moss, and heavy rain washes clumps of it into the gutters. With grit from the coverings, it forms a thick sludge that slows the flow and gives plants somewhere to grow.

Things that often lead to a survey include:

  • Leaks at the gutter joints
  • Cracked or loose downpipes
  • Water spilling over the gutter edge
  • Gutters packed with leaves or moss

If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, its chimney, valleys and lead work are likely to be the parts that need attention first.

FAQs for Ludgershall

Do you cover smaller places like Ludgershall?

We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.

Do you cover Ludgershall?

Yes, Ludgershall is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos.

What will the report tell me?

Written findings with photographs, covering the condition of the gutter, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.

Do you survey underground drains?

No. Our gutter survey covers rainwater above ground down to where the downpipes reach the ground. If a drain below ground looks like the cause, the report says so.

What happens after the survey?

The report comes by email, and you decide the next step: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

How quickly is the report sent?

It depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day. Reports are sent by email.

How long have you been surveying roofs?

We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, over more than 20 years, and 98% of clients are satisfied.

What affects the cost of gutter surveys

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
  • The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed

Thermal imaging and drone inspection (where applicable) come with the Premium Survey, which starts from £400, inc. VAT. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

What to tell us when you contact us

To price your survey accurately, we will ask about:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside

To get a price for gutter surveys in Ludgershall, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. Some details about the property and the roof help us price the survey accurately.

DIY checks: what’s safe

Keep a simple record: dates of leaks, photos from ground level and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry.

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From the ground, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

How the survey changes by roof type

Fascias and soffits

Some older soffits may contain asbestos. We flag any that could be so a specialist asbestos surveyor can check them before they’re disturbed.

Box and secret gutters

Box and secret gutters frequently cause leaks indoors. Outlets, linings and overflows are checked as far as access allows.
