Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Stoughton

Damp on walls, water marks under a valley or streaks down the brickwork can frequently be traced to the gutters. Our gutter survey helps show whether the rainwater system is the cause, from everything that’s safely in view. If the evidence points elsewhere, such as a flashing or the roof covering, we’ll say so, with a suggested next step. We survey outlets and hoppers, fascias and soffits and parapet and box gutters, and common reasons people get in touch are overflowing valley or parapet gutters and gutters packed with leaves or moss.

Around Stoughton, gardens, hedges and nearby trees can mean leaves and moss end up on roofs and in gutters. Blocked gutters overflow and soak the walls below, and moss holds water against tiles. A report spots that kind of slow problem before it becomes damp inside. Plants growing from a gutter or moss on the tiles are signs worth noting from ground level.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

What affects the cost of gutter surveys

Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. You’ll know the figure before booking.

Booking your survey

When you call or email, these details help:

  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • The property’s address and postcode
  • When you need the report by
  • The kind of building and roof involved

Why get it checked now?

A gutter clear-out takes the leaves away but it won’t explain why water keeps spilling over. Our survey also looks at falls, joints, brackets, outlets and downpipes to show whether something else is wrong. Around Stoughton, leaves and moss in gutters lead to overflowing water and damp walls. It is easy to sort the cause early and slow to dry a damp wall.

Every price we give includes VAT. Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for your roof before you book.

What happens on the day

Every roof is different; as a rough guide, the survey takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. Parking around Stoughton is usually easier than in a town centre, but mention lanes, gates or long drives. On bungalows and lower roofs, much can be seen from the ground, with the loft showing the underside.

  1. We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
  2. We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground.
  3. We look at hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
  4. The loft space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
  5. A written report with photographs and recommendations follows.

Before the survey

  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
  • Find any records of previous roof work

What we can’t see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:

  • Gutters out of sight from every safe viewpoint
  • Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
  • Pipes below ground level

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

What this survey covers

  • Downpipes
  • Outlets and hoppers
  • Parapet and box gutters
  • Fascias and soffits
  • Valley gutters
  • Eaves gutters

Tips from our surveys

There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:

  • Watch the gutters during heavy rain
  • Check that downpipes are firmly fixed to the wall
  • Ask for valleys and parapet gutters to be cleared too
  • Do not climb a ladder to look in the gutters

If anything in the report is not clear, ask us. With the Standard Survey there’s a follow-up consultation, and the Premium Survey includes an in-person consultation.

Get small faults like a dripping joint or loose downpipe sorted quickly. They tend to get worse and spilled water harms brickwork and woodwork.

Gutter surveys around Stoughton

Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Some old buildings in Surrey and Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. On roofs like these, good slates or tiles can outlast the nails, battens, lead and mortar around them. Guildford Castle, about 1.7 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Stoughton. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead.

If you live in an older home near Emmanuel Church, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Landlords with a home close to Guildford station may find that a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. Homes near green spaces such as Chitty's Common can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn.

Stoughton questions

Will you come out to Stoughton?

Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there as you book.

Can a landlord with a rental near Guildford station book a roof survey?

Yes, landlords and letting agents book with us as well as owners. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we’re allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.

What’s the price of a gutter survey?

Gutter survey starts from £150, including VAT. The size of the property and the access affect the price. For a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.

How long will you be on site?

A visit typically takes between one and two hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. You will know roughly how long when we arrange the visit.

What’s the best way to book?

It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email. Give us the address and a few details about the roof, and we will take it from there. We survey seven days a week.
