About our gutter survey in World's End
Owners get in touch after seeing an overflow, finding damp or planning ahead for winter. Landlords and managing agents use it to plan maintenance and buyers sometimes want the gutters looked at before they exchange. Whoever books, we inspect and report in the same way with photos and clear recommendations. We survey on weekdays and at weekends. We survey fascias and soffits, parapet and box gutters and downpipes, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are sagging gutters and loose brackets and gutters overflowing in heavy rain.
Much of London’s housing is flats, in converted houses or purpose-built blocks, so roofs are frequently shared between several households. Landlords, managing agents and residents’ companies need to know what condition it is in and what work is coming up, in World's End as anywhere. A defect on a shared roof can reach more than one flat. With a written report and photos, everyone can plan from the same facts.
What you get is a clear record of the gutter on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

What happens on the day
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes an hour or two for most houses, and longer for a large or complex roof. In a London conversion, the way into the roof space is frequently from a communal landing or the top flat. If that applies to your building, it helps to agree access with the neighbours or the managing agent first. Otherwise, the visit in World's End runs like any other.
- You tell us where you’ve seen overflows, drips or damp.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from ground level and windows.
- Valleys, parapets and box gutters are inspected where they can safely be seen.
- Where it’s safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we are coming
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at

Honest limits
Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey won’t do:
- Asbestos testing of old gutters, downpipes or soffits
- Hidden sections we cannot view safely
- Pipes below ground level
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and does not.

DIY checks: what’s safe
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
A lot can be seen from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in World's End
Close to the centre of London, a great many houses are Victorian or Edwardian terraces, many of them roofed in Welsh slate. Behind many of their parapets sit butterfly roofs and valley gutters that can’t be seen from the pavement. Shared chimney stacks, party-wall upstands and lead work come with this kind of house. Whatever the covering, it’s frequently the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. Historic houses such as Carlyle's House, about 0.5 miles east, show how far back building in the area around World's End goes. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
If your house is among the older ones in the streets near St John's Church Centre, old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs. Shop and office owners around Kensington Arcade may find that a roof report helps plan work around trading rather than after a leak. If you own a rental within reach of Imperial Wharf station, a dated record of the roof is useful when planning maintenance across a let.

World's End questions
How do I find out if my home in World's End is listed?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can a landlord with a rental near Imperial Wharf station book a roof survey?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. Just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Will I get photos?
Yes. The report includes photographs of what we found, so you can see each point for yourself.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
How long does a gutter survey take?
Most visits to a house take about 1–2 hours, with commercial buildings nearer 3–4 hours.
When is the best time for a gutter survey?
You can book at any time of year. Booking before autumn and winter gives you time to plan, and a wet spell can show where gutters overflow.
What’s the price of a gutter survey?
The Basic Survey starts from £150, the Standard from £250 and the Premium from £400, all including VAT. For a price for your building, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Tips from our surveys
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:
- Check for spilling water in a downpour
- Get trees that overhang the gutters trimmed
- Have gutters cleared at least once a year
- Do not climb a ladder to look in the gutters
You receive a written report with photos and clear written recommendations. Share it with a contractor of your choice so they know what needs doing.
Deal with drips, sags and loose downpipes early. They tend to get worse, and the water they spill can damage walls and timber.
