About our roof leak investigation in Hurst Green
Moisture readings and thermal imaging are used where they’re useful. Moisture readings show which materials are wet. Thermal imaging shows temperature differences that can point to wet areas, not water itself, so we confirm what it suggests with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is part of the Premium Survey, and moisture detection comes with Standard. The best thermal results come after a sunny day, with a dry roof and little wind. We survey flat roof details, slate and tile slopes and the roof space, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are leaks that appear only in driving rain and leaks at a dormer or roof window.
Being in a small place like Hurst Green makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Roof leak investigations in Hurst Green: local notes
Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls are typical of Surrey’s older houses. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. About 2.3 miles north lies Titsey Place, a reminder of how long the area around Hurst Green has been built on. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Hurst Green Infant School, a leak through a large roof is frequently found some distance from where the water shows inside. If you own a rental within reach of Hurst Green station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused.

Hurst Green: your questions answered
Do you cover Hurst Green?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Hurst Green is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details.
Is Hurst Green within the area you cover?
Yes. Hurst Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.
Can you always find the source?
We can’t promise it. Some leaks hide well, particularly those that need wind-driven rain. Where the source isn’t certain, we list the likely routes in order.
Why is not the leak directly above the stain?
Water follows the easiest path, not the shortest. On a pitched roof it often runs down a rafter before it shows. Following that route is what our investigation does.
What’s in the survey report?
A written report with photos, explaining the condition of the leaking roof, any defects and our recommendations, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only if it’s safe. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we can’t see is noted in the report.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. Where a material might contain it, like old cement sheets on a building from before 2000, the report flags it.
How it works
You do not need to do much on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. The survey itself takes an hour or two for most homes, though a hard-to-trace leak can take longer. Rural addresses near Hurst Green can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You let us know where the water appears, when, and what the weather was doing.
- Inside, we look at the stain and the ceiling around it.
- From the loft space, we trace the water’s route where there’s safe access.
- Outside, we check flashings, valleys, chimneys, gutters and flat roof details from each safe vantage point.
- We email a written report showing where the water most likely gets in.
Getting ready for the survey
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Tell us about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
Arrange a survey
If you are buying, it’s useful to book soon after your offer is accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. Otherwise, simply phone 07833 053749 or send us an email whenever suits you.
Advice
What we are asked to look at in Hurst Green
Every flat roof covering has a working life. Felt often lasts around 15 to 20 years, and splits, blisters and lifting laps let water in. Leaks frequently start at the edges, upstands and outlets.
A survey can pick up problems such as:
- Brown rings on upstairs ceilings
- Stains around a skylight
- Damp ceilings under a flat roof
- Staining where a gutter or parapet meets the wall
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Agatha's Hall, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.
Before you book anyone

- Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
Rented homes, blocks and businesses
With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on, photographs included.
Checking the roof from ground level
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
What happens if roof problems are left?
A leak that returns after a repair usually means the real source wasn’t found. We look past the obvious spot and check each likely route. It gives the next repair a far better chance. Older cottages and farmhouses around Hurst Green can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, and water through a failed covering can rot timber if it is left.
A Basic Survey starts from £150, including VAT. The Standard Survey starts from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400. We confirm the exact price before you book.
