Roof survey in Shenfield, Essex
Independent roof surveys in Shenfield. We have completed more than 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.

What happens if roof problems are left?
Leaving it means relying on what you can see from the ground. You might pay for work that does not fix the real problem, or miss the fault that matters. A survey tells you what actually needs attention. In a smaller place like Shenfield, wherever a roof is exposed, a loose ridge or flashing does not stay loose for long. Wind gets under it and lifts more, and water follows.
All our prices include VAT. Our price is from £150, including VAT. You will know the price for the job before booking.

How a roof survey works in Shenfield
People book a roof survey for all sorts of reasons. Some have seen a mark on a ceiling or bits of tile in the garden, others want a check before selling or after years without one. The approach is the same in each case: we inspect carefully and explain what we see in writing. Visits run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays, so it is easy to find a day that suits. Typical surveys look at ridge tiles that have lifted or moved and gaps in the roof where coverings have gone, on lead flashings, flat roofs and chimney stacks.
Around Shenfield, older cottages sit alongside bungalows and newer houses. Older roofs can have slate, clay tiles or other traditional coverings, while many later ones have concrete tiles. On older homes, chimney stacks, valleys and gutters are typically where the work is, and the fixings under the coverings matter too. Nails and battens under older coverings often give out before the slates or tiles themselves.
What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later, such as when you want to compare after future work.

Shenfield questions
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Shenfield station?
Yes, rented property is part of what we cover. Just call 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the building, including who will give access on the day.
Is Shenfield within the area you cover?
Yes, Shenfield is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
Not as an exact number, since the fixings, underlay and maintenance all play a part. What we do is explain the roof’s condition and what to deal with first.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
Do you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Many roofs can be seen well from windows, vantage points and the loft, and Premium includes a drone where it applies.
How do I arrange a roof survey in Shenfield?
To book, call 07833 053749 or email us and tell us the address and what you want to find out. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.

What else we do in Shenfield
What we do, step by step
The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about one to two hours at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. A visit to Shenfield is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed ahead of time. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Tell us about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
- We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.
- Slates or tiles, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters are all examined and photographed.
- We email a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

What this survey can’t tell you
It helps to know what a survey will not do before booking:
- Structural calculations (that is a structural engineer’s job)
- Whether materials contain asbestos (that needs a specialist asbestos surveyor)
- Walls, floors and services below the roof
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll suggest the right survey before booking. What a survey covers and does not.
What we look at
- The roof space
- Ridges, hips and valleys
- Lead flashings
- Chimney stacks
- Clay and concrete tiles
- Flat roofs
- Natural slate
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Shenfield
Older buildings in Essex often have clay tiles and weatherboarding, and a good many post-war and modern estates besides. Whatever the covering, it’s often the fixings, flashings, valleys and gutters that give out first. About 3.8 miles north-east lies Ingatestone Hall, a reminder of how long the area around Shenfield has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
Anyone responsible for a site like Shenfield St. Mary's Church of England Primary School will know that its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale. Landlords with a home close to Shenfield station may find that a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant. Trees in and around Hutton Country Park shed leaves that can end up in nearby gutters, so outlets and downpipes are worth watching.
Shenfield is about 1 mile north-east of Brentwood, in Essex. Surveys in Shenfield work the same way as everywhere we cover: a proper look at whatever is safely visible, photos and a clear written report. Shenfield is one of the towns and villages in Essex where we work for roof surveys. There is also a page for Chelmsford.
Here we cover the CM15 and CM13 postcode area for roof surveys. Whether your property is on York Road, Hall Lane and Worrin Road or a nearby road, we can survey it. If you’re just outside Shenfield, we cover Brentwood (1 mile south-west), Hutton Mount (1 mile south-east), Hutton (2 miles east), Ingrave (2 miles south-east) and Mountnessing (2 miles north-east). Larger places within reach include Chelmsford (10 miles north-east), Basildon (7 miles south-east), Harlow (13 miles north-west), Canvey Island (14 miles south-east), Billericay (4 miles east) and Rayleigh (13 miles east).

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work around your tenants.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photographs included.
What affects the price in Shenfield
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
- Basic, Standard or Premium
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. Size, height and access can affect the price too.
Getting in touch
If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
Roof survey starts from £150, including VAT. The exact figure depends on the roof and the package, and you can ring 07833 053749 or email us to find out.
Can I check my roof myself?
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.
Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight.
