Tips that help

A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:

  • Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
  • Keep a note of the date of the storm
  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • File receipts for anything you pay for

The insurer might appoint a loss adjuster. You will have your own independent record to refer to.

A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Have loose slates, tiles and flashings seen to promptly.

How a storm damage roof report works in Cyprus

After a storm, it helps to have a clear record of what happened to your roof. We photograph the damage, describe it and note whether it fits storm damage, older wear or both. We’re not loss adjusters and cannot tell you if your claim will succeed. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. If you’re worried about roofs hit by falling trees and ridge tiles that have come loose, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, gutters and fascias and flashings alike.

Many London homes are well over a century old and their roofs have been patched more than once, so a new leak can be the latest sign of wear rather than a single event. Insurers usually exclude wear and tear, so it helps to know whether damage is old or new. That is as true in Cyprus as anywhere in London. A written record with photos helps you explain what was found to whoever deals with it next.

The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

What a storm damage roof report looks like in Cyprus

Outer London has lots of Victorian and Edwardian terraces with slate roofs, but also a great many interwar semis, frequently with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles. If your home in Cyprus is one of them, bay roofs, hips and later dormers each have their own details. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. With Eastbury Manor House about 2.3 miles north-east, Cyprus sits in an area with a long building history. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

If you own a rental within reach of Woolwich station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away. If you run a business near Gallions Reach Shopping Park, finding where water is getting in quickly keeps disruption down. For an older house near a landmark such as St Michael and All Angels Church, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Cyprus is about 2 miles east of Canning Town, in Greater London. In Cyprus, as across Greater London, every roof gets the same careful survey. Cyprus is one of the places in Greater London we cover. We also survey roofs in London.

Every address in E6 and E16 is within our area for storm damage roof reports. We offer storm damage roof reports to properties on Strait Road, Harper Road and Trader Road and the roads around them. If you’re just outside Cyprus, we cover Beckton (1 mile north-east), North Woolwich (1 mile south), Royal Docks (1 mile west), East Ham (1 mile north) and Custom House (1 mile west). Further out, we also cover London (7 miles west), City of Westminster (9 miles west), Marylebone (9 miles west), Kensington (11 miles west), St Pancras (8 miles west) and Shoreditch (6 miles west).

What this survey can’t tell you

To be straight with you, a roof survey has limits:

  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • Whether your insurer will pay the claim
  • Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Flat roofs
  • Ridges and hips
  • Chimney stacks
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Flashings

What happens if roof problems are left?

Damage left open lets in more rain. That can add to the damage and make it harder to separate from the storm. A roofer should deal with emergency protection quickly. In Cyprus, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below. A small blockage left for a few winters becomes a damp problem.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

Why us?

  • Over 5,000 surveys carried out
  • Weekday and weekend surveys
  • An independent look at the roof

Checking the roof from the ground

Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.

What we do, step by step

We will ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In a London conversion, the way into the roof space is often from a communal landing or the top flat. Where that’s the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Otherwise, the visit in Cyprus runs like any other.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Before the survey

  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we are coming
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Questions from Cyprus

Is parking a problem for a survey in Cyprus?

It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Tell us what parking is available nearby, and the visit is planned around it.

How do I find out if my home in Cyprus is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.

How long is the visit?

That depends on the size and shape of the roof, but most surveys take an hour or two at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. The written report follows by email.

What do I do if water is coming in?

A roofer should handle temporary protection. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. Our report then records the roof.

How do I book a survey in Cyprus?

To arrange a survey, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We’ll confirm the price and agree a day with you.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in if we are looking inside or in the loft. Access is agreed with you when you book.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where it’s applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and the airspace and weather are checked before every flight.

Roof by roof

Chimney stacks

Pots, cowls and aerials on chimneys can be damaged or dislodged in a storm. The report notes any damage to the stack.

Lead flashings

Old flashings that were already loose can give way in a storm. Our report separates fresh damage from older wear where we can.
